Course Director, Storytelling
Department: Education – Game Design Bachelor of Science
Responsibilities: The Faculty member will develop curriculum and teach the Storytelling course in the Game Design Bachelor of Science Program. The Storytelling Course introduces students to the history of storytelling in all its manifestations: from ancient tribal performance and cave paintings to the modern impact of story in various entertainment media. Students will examine storytelling as a practical tool for communicating information and ideas, including storyboarding techniques. There will be particular attention paid to how storytelling operates through modern technologies, including cinema and games, and how it can be used in video games to build narrative depth, emotional impact, and theme, which all work toward greater player immersion.
Candidate will mentor students, attend faculty development workshops, and participate in campus activities including meetings, special events, behind-the-scenes tours and graduation.
All faculty will work directly from the Full Sail campus in Winter Park, FL.
Requirements: The successful candidate will have a minimum of 4 years professional writing experience. Experience working in the Game Industry preferred.
Education/Training: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Writing and a minimum of 4 years professional experience.
Skills Needed: This is primarily a lecture position, so candidates must also demonstrate strong communication and presentation skills, with previous educational experience preferred. Applicants must have a proven ability to create effective and engaging course curriculum.
