RESPONSIBILITIES:

DESCRIPTION:
A 196-day, full-time continuing contract-earning teaching position. Teaching assignment will consist of providing instruction in college credit automotive technology programs which includes, but is not limited to: electrical and electronics, steering and suspension, manual and automatic transmissions, or any of the eight A.S.E. automotive specialty areas. Duties include teaching three terms in a 196-day contract year, strengthening the curriculum, and advising students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Plan and organize classes to instruct students in a classroom/lab setting.

2. Cross train in Ford and/or General Motors as responsibilities include teaching in both Ford and GM programs.

3. Anticipate industry emerging technologies and seek opportunities for automotive department to strengthen and expand curriculum as needed.

4. Work with other department faculty to evaluate and revise existing courses, to develop new courses and update curriculum as needed.

5. Actively seek to build or maintain positive and productive relationships with area dealers.

6. Visit local dealers to maintain open communication, assess student needs, and seek opportunities for the department.

7. Assist in marketing automotive programs in the community. Participate in recruitment activities; career days, secondary and primary school visits, and others. Work with the department to actively recruit qualified students.

8. Maintain A.S.E. industry certifications (required).

9. Maintain GM/ASEP and Ford industry instructor training certifications (required).

10. Work with other faculty to maintain department vehicles, tools, and equipment. Assist with department inventories.

11. Maintain required office hours to provide assistance to students individually, and in small groups. In collaboration with Student Success Services, advise students toward program completion.

12. Assist in implementing college policies, objectives and functions in accordance with college philosophy and procedures.

13. Participate in staff and committee work as requested.

14. Performs other site and position specific responsibilities as assigned.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: (TRAVEL, WORK HOURS, WORKING CONDITIONS, ETC.) Recruiting events, auto shows, and special functions require flexible hours and days.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree in the field taught or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution (REQUIRED). Significant progress towards the BS degree may be accepted.

2. A.S.E. Automobile Master Certifications (required).

3. Minimum of five years GM and/or Ford technical experience (required).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience in alternative fuel technologies (desired).

2. A.S.E.-L1 certification (desired).

3. Experience teaching at a college or technical center level, experience in curriculum design (desired).

4. Experience as a General Motors and/or Ford training instructor (desired).

5. Current General Motors STC Training Path 100% and/or Ford STST Training Path 100% (desired).

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS:
1. A personal and professional commitment to creating an atmosphere of quality instruction at Seminole State College.

2. Understanding of and commitment to the use of instructional technology.

3. Ability to plan, write, and execute lesson plans on assigned subject material.

4. Demonstrate excellent communication skills, presentations, verbally and written.

5. English reading, writing, and speaking skills at the native level of fluency.

6. Ability to relate to adult learners.

7. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.

8. Familiar with both Ford and GM products, diagnostics, and service information.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
1. Acceptable eyesight and hearing (with or without correction/aid).
2. Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
3. Average physical condition.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Work in a classroom/laboratory environment.
