This is a specialized position to take reports/investigate incidents in non-emergency situations to provide assistance to sworn police officers. This is to include, but not limited to, traffic accident investigations, parking violations, and police incident reports, generally considered 'over with' and not requiring emergency police response. Performs duties with latitude for independent judgment and action consistent with departmental; and criminal justice discipline guidelines. | | Examples of Essential Functions: |

- Responds to crime scenes to conduct initial scene investigations and evidence processing. - Investigates assigned motor vehicle accidents and issues appropriate citations. - Prepares detailed, accurate, written reports as required. - Enforces state and local laws relating to parking of motor vehicles. - Issues appropriate citations in instances of violations. - Directs traffic on roadways at intersections to ensure minimum traffic congestion. - Testifies in court and in depositions. - Assists in non-hazardous area searches as directed. - Follows safe working practices and has a working knowledge of safety practices and procedures. - In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster, which may threaten the area, the employee will be expected to work. | | Typical Qualifications: |

APPLICATION PROCESS: - Applicants MUST complete the Online Application and the Supplement Questions by NOVEMBER 22, 2009. (If you do not have access to a computer with internet, there is one available at the Casselberry City Hall or at your local library)
- The Recruitment Section will review your Online Application and the Supplement Questions. If you do not meet the minimum standards, you will be notified. If you do meet the minimum standards, you be will be notified and an Application Packet will be E-mailed to you. If you do not have an E-mail account, the packet can be picked up from the Casselberry Police Department or it can be mailed to you.
- The Application Packet must be completed either in Adobe and printed OR printed and typed. Handwritten documents WILL NOT be accepted. The Application Packet must be complete with all required documents attached, signed, notarized (were applicable) and returned to the Casselberry Police Department by DECEMBER 4, 2009 by 4:00 p.m.
- The Recruitment Section will review your Application Packet. If you do not meet the minimum standards, you will be notified. If you do meet the minimum standards, you will be notified and invited to take the Written Test.
- The required POST (Police Officer Selection Test) exam and writing sample test will be conducted in the Casselberry Police Department multi-purpose room on DECEMBER 15, 2009; at 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Applicants will be notified immediately of their test score. NOTE: Applicants do not require ANY law enforcement experience to complete the POST test. Applicants that have passed the POST will be permitted to Advance to the Oral Board Review.
- The Oral Board will be at the Casselberry Police Department on January 5, 2010; starting at 9:00 AM until completed.
- The Recruitment Section will compile all applicants' files and review them with the Deputy Chief of Police. The Deputy Chief of Police will select applicants that are going to be sent for a background review, held for further consideration or removed from the process. All applicants will be notified of their status.
- The background process will be handled by the Casselberry Investigations Section. This process will included, but not limited to a voice stress examination; a fingerprint comparison; and a review of the history concerning your employment, driving, credit, criminal history and drug usage. Dates and times associated with this process is at the discretion of the background investigator. After the completion of the Background Check, all applicants will be notified of their status. Applicants with acceptable backgrounds will advance to the Chief's Interview.
- The Chief's Interview will be conducted at the discretion of the Chief of Police. The Chief's Staff Assistant will contact the applicant to schedule the interview. The Chief of Police will select applicants that are going to be recommended for Conditional Employment Offers, held for further consideration or removed from the process. All applicants will be notified of their status by mail. Applicants that are being recommended for Conditional Employment Offers will advance to the City Managers Review.
- The City Manager will review the application package and either approve or deny the Conditional Employment Offer. Applicants that are denied will be notified. Applicants that are approved will be advanced to the final stage.
- The final stage consists of a medical physical and drug screen of the applicant. Applicants that fail any part of this stage will be removed from employment consideration. Applicants that pass all parts of this stage will be authorized for a full time position with the Casselberry Police Department. The Training Sergeant will coordinate starting date with the new Community Service Officer.
