Description

The Director of Physician Services (aka VPPS) is the local physician executive responsible for working with the hospital Medical Staff and Administration to achieve mutual interests of delivering safe, high quality and efficient healthcare to our patients. Activities include coaching and mentoring physicians, active engagement around quality assurance, utilization review and process improvement as well as developing and maintaining a professionally competent medical staff through both initial and ongoing privileging and credentialing activities. Will monitor and assure compliance with Medical Staff Bylaws, hospital regulations and regulatory (e.g. Joint Commission) requirements. Acts as an advocate on behalf of our patients, the hospital and health system and the medical staff. Actively works with physician advisors in their capacity working with case management to assist with utilization of resources, medical necessity and compliance. Participates in patient placement/transfer center activities to assure appropriateness of transfers, both internally and externally. Interacts with other physician executives and serves on committees and projects as appropriate. Works collaboratively across the system to engender a system approach of clinical standardization and excellence in the delivery of high quality, cost efficient care.
