Course Director, Business of Film

Winter Park, Florida

This opening is for general consideration for Faculty positions within the Full Sail University Education Department. Course Directors ensure excellence in teaching skills and classroom content, manage instructors and lab personnel to deliver the same excellence in the labs, ensure personal service to students, maintain continuing education as defined in the faculty development plan and design and/or maintain curriculum to ensure industry standards are being met. Business of Film
In this course, students will integrate his/her technical and conceptual understanding of filmmaking with the practical dimensions of a managing career in the film industry. Students will examine current industry business models and develop plans to advance their careers in filmmaking. Lessons will help students understand the marketing of films through film festivals and the preparation of supporting materials, including press kits, film trailers, and film art. The course will also examine sale licenses, the role of talent agents, and the process of negotiating a deal to represent a film. Upon completion of this course, students will have created a trailer for their film and presented an effective marketing strategy. Topics include networking, negotiation, film festivals, marketing, financing, and international markets.

Education/Training
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of four years related and verifiable experience, and a Master’s degree in Film, Cinematography, Producing, Directing, Business or a related field. Doctorate, MFA or Law degree preferred. Candidates applying will be reviewed for various open teaching positions. Depending on the course level, requirements will be varied based on our Accrediting Commission (ACCSC).

 

Skills Needed Strong experience in the film industry is required. The industry experience would include producing, directing, screenwriting, or entertainment business/law. All faculty positions require excellent oral and written communication skills, passion to encourage learning, being a self-motivated team member, and the ability to help develop curriculum. Teaching positions will require campus and online teaching.
