CLASSIFICATION: Mechanical / Plumbing Inspector
HOURS: 40 Hours Per Week
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from high school or vocational school or equivalent; preferably supplemented by college-level course work in Mechanical Engineering, and a minimum of two years of experience as a Mechanical and Plumbing Inspector. Must have (5) years of experience in the mechanical/plumbing trade. Possession of certification as required by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as a Mechanical and Plumbing Inspector and a Mechanical and Plumbing Plans Examiner. Must be in possession of a current/valid FL Driver’s License and maintain insurability under the District’s commercial vehicle coverage.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspects mechanical systems, HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, ventilation systems, exhaust systems, chimney and vent systems, boilers, solar systems, chilled and hot water systems, hydraulic systems, water supply systems, drainage and sewer systems, water heater installations, and air and gas piping systems for approved materials, specified pipe sizes and connections, required grade and fitting, approved back flow prevention devices, required bracing, ventilation, and air and water tightness. Work involves inspecting a variety of blueprints and installations to determine whether plans, specifications, workmanship, and materials conform to legally established requirements. Duties require that a large part of the employee's time be spent in an office dealing with the public. The employee of this class checks plans and performs routine office duties, consulting with a technical superior. The responsibilities listed are not a complete list of required functions of the position; other duties may be assigned as necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with arms, talk and hear. Occasionally required to sit, climb, stoop, kneel or crawl.
SALARY: Wage ranges between $1,075 and $1,400 per week.
