Shift Security Supervisor

DESCRIPTION:
Responsible for supervising security officers and monitoring day-to-day security operations during an assigned shift.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. In the absence of the Director, Safety & Security must initiate sound judgment to properly perform and complete assigned task or handle any emergencies that might occur.
2. Coordinates activities and events with other security supervisors, security officers, the Director, Safety and Security and other college officials.
3. In the absence of the Director, assists with the Safety and Security Management Team
4. Oversees preparation of written statements taken from witnesses/victims in support of incident reports.
5. Disbursement and inventory of College keys and proxy cards for campus security.
6. Provides information and responses to other officers/students/outside agencies regarding operation of the department or division.
7. Plan, direct, inspect, and control all functions of personnel within their command in order to provide optimal efficiency and effectiveness at all times. Ensures the proper allocation and distribution of personnel.
8. Patrols college property in an effort to prevent unauthorized loitering, parking, thefts, and other crimes . Requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time, and to climb stairs frequently.
9. Regulates parking and traffic to prevent accidents and congestion. Requires the ability to distinguish colors.
10. Determine the training needs of personnel and implement training plans to meet these needs. .
11. Responds to emergencies of a medical, criminal and mechanical nature. Requires the ability to run when necessary, the ability to maneuver in small spaces, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
12. Performs investigations of incidents occurring on college property.
13. Plan and establish needs for equipment and supplies.
14. Evaluates personnel assigned to them. Establish and maintain discipline and ensure compliance with departmental standard directives and college policies and procedures.
15. Develop and maintain proper public and interpersonal skills. Receives and records service and personnel complaints.
16. Covers various shifts as needed, including call-backs and on-call for emergency situations.
17. Performs related security work as required.
18. Provide leadership and direction to assigned security personnel.
19. Works with the Director to develop both short and long term goals and objectives and update annually in order to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.
20. Ability to handle and properly maintain confidential information.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
2. Minimum 3 years of experience in security or law enforcement.
3. Valid Florida driver’s license or a valid license from another state with the ability to obtain a Florida license within 30 days.
4. Security or related training certificate that meets or exceeds security requirements under Florida Statute 493.5203 [Class D License required].
5. Certified in CPR/First Aid. If not currently certified, must become certified within 6 months of employment.
6. Demonstrated experience utilizing Microsoft Office programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Associate’s degree from an accredited College or University
2. 1-2 years’ supervisory experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of security operations and procedures applicable policies, regulations, laws, etc. as they affect the security of the campuses.
2. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
3. Ability to enforce regulations consistently.
4. Ability to work different shifts and different campus locations.
5. Ability to describe people/objects in accurate detail.
6. Strong interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to operate a personal computer, data entry and word processing equipment.
8. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
9. Committed to working in a multi-cultural environment.

PHYSICAL ABILITY ASSESSMENT
Per College Policy 1.020 and 2.020, and College Procedure 2.0350:
1. Final hire/appointment of a candidate offered employment in this position is contingent upon the candidate's successful completion of a job-related physical ability assessment.
2. Current employees may be referred for a job-related physical ability assessment or reassessment upon their supervisor’s recommendation and subsequent approval by the Office of Human Resources, or upon the recommendation of the Office of Human Resources.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS and ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
1. Due to the number of personnel reporting directly to this position, and the need for emergency adjustments of work schedules, the following are necessary for this position:

b. Dependable transportation
2. Works both inside an office environment and outside in various weather conditions.
