General Function

Under the direction of the Director of Operations – Middle Schools Program, the Program Director I provides leadership and management of Middle Before and/or After School programming and summer camps at multiple school sites. The Program Director I manages development and effective implementation of a full range of programs and planned activities at each site to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all students and parents.

Job Responsibilities

ESTABLISH AND IMPLEMENT A DEPARTMENT PLAN:

  • Implement Middle Before and/or After School programs to promote retention of existing students and engagement of new students. Direct staff to support Middle Schools program initiatives to achieve retention goals and maintain the requirements of average daily attendance.
  • Analyze data, systems and processes to recognize growth and retention opportunities within the Middle Schools program.
  • Ensure proper implementation of schedules and procedures to provide maximum opportunities for student/staff connections while keeping within the mandated ratios. Collaborate and work effectively with all sites to achieve desired results.
  • Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the Middle Schools program. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance program participation and student retention.
  • Compile programming data for all contractual reporting, as well as all other reporting requirements for the Director of Operations, including head count reports, CCC reports, and newsletter and activity schedules for each supervised site.
  • Establish systems for regularly scheduled inspections to ensure proper and efficient working order of supplies, equipment and materials at all times. Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials approved by the purchase requisition process.
  • Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local, school district and YMCA of Central Florida health and safety standards and policies. Ensure all staff are current with required certifications.

GROW AND RETAIN PROGRAM ENROLLMENT:

  • Create and implement programs to increase participation through interactions with existing and potential students and parents. Collaborate and maintain effective relationships with school principals and other applicable school administration to maximize enrollments in program registration.
  • Plan and execute events at the Middle Schools sites. Promote the Middle Schools program and the YMCA of Central Florida’s special events among the students, parents and community.

BUILD AND MANAGE A GREAT STAFF TEAM:

  • Recruit, select, develop and retain appropriate skill depth level for each site location. Supervise site staff. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
  • Provide leadership through established performance goals and standards, regular assessment of staff performance including annual performance evaluations, and staff meetings.

PREPARE AND MANAGE THE BUDGET:

  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations to plan and manage the budget. Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines.
  • Process timecards and payroll to ensure timely, accurate reporting.

Performance Measurements

Responsible for the overall program growth of existing sites.  Implementation of outcome based programming consisting of values, reading, health and wellness and reducing family stress.

  • Responsible for the operations of assigned before and after school sites, with a specific focus on increasing existing participation.
  • Implementation of outcome based curriculum into all before and after school locations, as well as summer camp. Incorporating values, reading, health & wellness and reducing family stress into all areas of our daily programming.
  • Recruitment, training and development of all staff members, with specific emphasis on full time and part time employees.
  • Ensure that all sites are in compliance with Orange County Public School contract requirements.

Job Requirements

To be successful, you must meet education, training and experience requirements, and you must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; education or related field of study preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in managing an educational program; multi-locations preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in staff supervision and leadership preferred.
  • Experience in curriculum development preferred.
  • Child care experience a plus.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; Oracle experience a plus.
  • Current CPR/ AED and First Aid certifications required.

  • Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing to travel extensively within Central Florida. Must have valid Florida driver license.
  • Read, write and communicate using English language sufficient to perform job functions.

  • Excellent follow through actions regarding communication with all parents, with demonstrated sensitivity and responsiveness to their needs.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

The physical activities of this position include:  stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction. The employee must be able to perform medium work:  exerting up to 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity, along with the visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles. The employee is subject to both environmental conditions:  activities occur inside and outside. The employee is subject to extreme heat:  temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
