General Function

 

Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities, the Pool Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance of the pools and pool equipment within the Family Center. The Pool Maintenance Technician supports member participation and retention through assisting the Facility department in achieving strategic goals and providing outstanding customer service to all members.

 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform routine maintenance of filters, pumps, heaters, and other mechanical equipment related to operation of the Family Center pools.
  • Make routine maintenance repairs, referring major system needs to appropriate vendors.
  • Wash, scrub, and disinfect pool area. Clean and repair drains.
  • Test swimming pool water on a regular established schedule. Add or adjust chemicals as needed to maintain and properly balance water chemistry.
  • Brush and vacuum pool keeping debris, bacterial growth, and marks off of floor and walls.
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool areas including pool decks, ladders, tile, gutter grates, pool lifts, storage rooms, and surrounding areas.
  • Utilize proactive planning for routine cleaning and maintenance during peak usage by coordinating and integrating pool maintenance schedule with Family Center events.
  • Prepare pool and surrounding areas for special events. Provide assistance and advice for special events as it relates to pool operations and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with Family Center management to complete all work orders, special projects and other pool maintenance needs.
  • Assist the Director of Facilities to resolve any safety maintenance concerns immediately.
  • Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA of Central Florida health and safety standards and policies.
  • Pick up supplies from local vendors as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with required documentation of MSDS manual and all OSHA standards.
  • Remain knowledgeable of all safety and risk management procedures and respond appropriately as trained in emergency situations.
  • Assist in identifying active volunteers for the Family Center Annual Scholarship Campaign.
  • Promote and represent the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in the Family Center and its programs.
  • All other duties assigned by Management.

 

Job Requirements

 

To be successful, you must meet education, training and experience requirements, and you must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and abilities:

 

Education, Training and Experience

 

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in maintaining commercial swimming pools required.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification a required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.

  • Must be willing to regularly work flexible hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have valid Florida driver license.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

 

The physical activities of this position include:  climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, and repetitive motions. Talking is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, with or without correction.

The employee must be able to perform heavy work:  exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as operating machines where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach, along with performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature. The employee is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.

The employee is subject to both environmental conditions:  activities occur inside and outside. The employee is subject to extreme heat:  temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. The employee is subject to noise:  there is sufficient noise to cause the employee to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The employee is subject to vibration:  exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body. The employee is subject to hazards:  includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The employee is subject to atmospheric conditions:  one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. The employee is subject to oils:  there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids. The employee is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
