Yager Eye Institute is now part of Medical City Eye Center!  We have 50 years of experience in providing vision care to the Greater Orlando area and we are looking for an Experienced Optometric Technician to join our amazing team!

This position REQUIRES Experience in an OPTOMETRIC OFFICE!!

Summary:

  • Reports directly to the Optometrist and responsible for conducting pre-testing and special 
  • testing for the following equipment and instruments: 
  • Pre-testing I – auto refraction, lensometry, tonometry and topography. 
  • Pre-testing II – preliminary case history including current medical conditions. 
  • Visual acuities, dial in, phoropter, color vision and drop instillation. 
  • Special testing – visual fields, fundus photography, slit lamp photography, 
  • optec vision screener. 
  • Also responsible for processing patient’s information through the computer system and 
  • helps maintain the operation of the reception records and examination room area. 

The Optometric Tech is responsible for scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, maintaining accurate patient records, and assisting with preliminary testing under the Optometrist’s supervision. Optometric Tech will also be charged with educating patients on lens insertion and removal and overall care of contact lenses. This position has some similarities to a Dr. Assistant position: i.e. customer interaction, insurance verification, patient records, etc.

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Schedule appointments according to the Resource Scheduling guidelines
  • Answer patients’ questions, check patients in and out, collect payments, monitor and perform other front desk tasks as needed
  • Perform preliminary testing data collection as directed
  • Instruct patients on the insertion, removal, cleaning, care and proper handling of their contact lenses
  • Maintain complete and accurate patient records
  • Confirm the schedule: call appointments the day before to confirm the appointment time. Contact no shows
  • Call for insurance pre-authorization; notify patients when their contact lenses are available for dispensing, etc.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and instruments in the optometric area as well as supply inventories
  • Other duties as assigned by management to include cross training, etc.


Qualified Candidates will possess the following:

  • 3-5 years of related experience, optical preferred
  • Able to work a varying schedule to include: days, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret insurance forms
  • Must complete company training programs within the required time frame
