General Counsel

Seminole State College of Florida is accepting applications for a General Counsel. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced General Counsel to conduct, coordinate and manage the legal affairs of the College. In addition, the General Counsel provides leadership within the College community for the development, refinement, review, and recommendation of policies and procedures of the College.  This position reports directly to the President.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Juris Doctorate from a regionally-accredited law school.
  2. Must be licensed to practice in Florida, or if licensed in another state, must be able to obtain admission to practice in Florida within one year of hire.
  3. Substantial or progressive legal experience practicing law and supervising legal professionals for a minimum of 6 years.
  4. Experience in making effective decisions and producing results through strategic planning and development, implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Five-years of experience in the practice of higher education law.
  2. Legal experience practicing law with emphasis on labor and employment, related arbitration and administrative proceedings.
  3. Administrative/legal experience in higher education at a comprehensive public community/state college.
  4. Experience with contract law, employment-at-will, contractual employment, academic freedom and FERPA.
