Consumer Affairs Representative
Are you one who wants to empower people and make an impact on the community by interacting with the public on multiple levels? If so, BBB is looking for you! BBB is seeking an energetic, empathetic individual with excellent customer services skills and a willingness to assist callers with disputes, purchasing decisions and ways to avoid scams through phone and email.
In addition to providing excellent customer service, the Consumer Affairs Representative is an entry-level position will assist the public through established BBB procedures. The Consumer Affairs Representative will also assist in the development and maintenance of BBB’s business information database and perform various other tasks as assigned.
Specific duties include:
- Providing information on companies through BBB’s computer database and answering consumer questions.
- Using the Internet to access BBB information on out-of-town companies.
- Update database based on information received and verified from calls.
- Providing general advice to callers on a variety of consumer-business issues.
- Providing referrals to other agencies and organizations.
- Counseling customers with complaints against businesses and determining when BBB involvement is appropriate.
- Providing update on complaint status to those that inquire.
- Monitor Business Information Request list to ensure file is accurate prior to sending request.
- Identifying patterns of complaints, signs of scams and other information necessary in developing business reports.
- Manage Customer Reviews.
- Participating in full staff, departmental and team meetings.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Professional speaking voice & excellent telephone etiquette
- Commitment to providing outstanding customer service
- Strong active listening skills, ability to investigate problems and to assist in resolving disputes.
- Capable of empathizing and working with a variety of consumers and businesses without taking sides
- Ability to manage difficult callers
- Attention to detail, thoroughness, accuracy in data entry
- Can summarize information from phone calls and accurately record details in BBB database
- Able to draft professional business correspondence including email communications with attention to proper grammar, spelling and punctuation
- Strong computer skills including knowledgeable about Internet research tools
- Must be able to organize and prioritize work in a fast paced team environment and be flexible to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as needed
- Must possess high school diploma and some college preferred
