Description of Work
Independently supervises maintenance employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, servicing and overhaul of mass transit vehicles on an assigned shift. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides exemplary customer service to both internal and external customers through effective communication, performance management and by personal example.
- Schedules and assigns work to Technicians and Service Island Attendants.
- Opens Electronic Work Orders.
- Inspects/Supervises work in progress, ensuring all jobs are executed according to industry repair standards and that all units released to the Transportation Department are clean and safe for service.
- Makes decisions regarding vehicle safety, consulting with Training, the Maintenance Manager and the Safety Officer for guidance as necessary.
- Provides detailed technical assistance and/or instruction as necessary.
- Instructs/Demonstrates the proper and safe use of tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Ensures that all policies, procedures and work rules are followed.
- Provides leadership, enthusiasm and a “can-do” attitude in order to ensure the success of the Maintenance Department.
- Communicates with the Transportation Department and Dispatch on the availability/non-availability of vehicles.
- Ensures that the Transportation Department has buses available in good order to achieve pullout and the required service.
- Ensures that all shift assignments are executed/completed correctly and on schedule.
- Provides constructive counseling including commendations, corrective actions and issues violations when necessary to Maintenance Staff.
- Researches and prepares vehicle performance reports and identifies break down trends and fleet defects.
- Prepares personnel performance reports.
- Monitors employee tardiness, absenteeism, and work performance and administers discipline as necessary.
- Reviews shift work orders and electronic time cards for proper coding, comments and closes work orders that are in a work completed status. Updates all Maintenance Status Logs.
- Coordinates with the Material Control & Procurement departments on parts requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of the repair, overhaul and servicing principles and procedures of heavy-duty transit vehicles.
- Extensive knowledge in electronic engine/transmission diagnosis and repairs.
- Extensive knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Proficient in planning, assigning and supervising the work of skilled Technicians conducive to safe and productive performances.
- Must be thoroughly knowledgeable on the “Maintenance Rule Book” and labor agreement between LYNX and ATU Local 1596.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback on Technicians performance and skills.
- Ability to execute preventive maintenance plans for mobile/non-mobile equipment.
- Ability to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Must be flexible and willing to be trained/retrained on new systems and system updates.
- PC skills: competent in word processing and spreadsheet software.
- Ability to learn how to use software applications for Maintenance Reporting, engine troubleshooting, transmission troubleshooting.
- Ability to navigate the Internet and the Intranet to gain information or process web-based forms.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff, coworkers, subordinate employees, and all those doing business with LYNX.
- Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Knowledge of the LYNX system is desirable.
- Any employee using a company vehicle will be required to provide and maintain proof of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
- Employees must be able to communicate in English on the work site.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to walk, use hands, reach, stoop, kneel, bend, push, talk, hear, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work in various weather conditions, temperatures, and around loud noises, moving parts, fumes, and chemicals.
Minimum Education and Experience
High School diploma or GED and six (6) years experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of heavy-duty vehicles and two (2) years of technical school/Associate’s degree. An equivalent combination of related training, education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills and ability to effectively perform the functions of this position may be considered. Requires experience in a supervisor or lead capacity and working knowledge of the US Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, CFR 49, 1490.
Must possess a current Florida Commercial Driver License, Class “B” with airbrakes and a Passenger endorsement. Must be able to pass a DOT physical examination and drug screen.
