CLASSIFICATION:    Captain – Training

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    Must have a two-year degree from an accredited college or university. Must maintain current certification in the following: State of Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards, Fire Officer One, Fire Safety Inspector, FL Fire Service Instructor I, and Paramedic. Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and maintain insurability under the District's commercial vehicle coverage. Must also have and maintain instructor certifications in PALS, ACLS, and BLS within one year of starting date of position.

RESPONSIBILITIES:    Works with management to assess training needs for the Department. Develops, coordinates, and delivers classes and training to Department personnel. Ensure that Department personnel are proficiently trained to perform assigned tasks, meet minimum State and Federal standards of training; monitor and ensure that required certifications are kept current. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant Chief of Training, but the individual must take initiative and exercise independent judgment. Additional responsibilities include leadership, direction; support and participate in emergency and non-emergency incident mitigation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach and frequently required to walk.  Most essential functions require muscular strength and endurance, aerobic capacity, flexibility, equilibrium and anaerobic power. Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 100 pounds is also required.

•    FireTEAM™ Promote consists of a video-based employee observation component and a series of written situational judgment questions that directly measure a candidate’s ability to become an effective supervisor and manager.

ORAL PRESENTATIONS:
•    Develop an original Lesson Plan and deliver it to an audience – topic to be announced
•    Deliver a pre-packaged Lesson Plan to an audience – topic to be announced

SALARY:    Minimum starting salary $1052 / week.
