Education Director, YMCA Childcare Svcs at Walt Disney World Resort - Sherberth

Under the direction of the Senior Program Director or Executive Director, the Education Director provides leadership and management at the Disney Child Care site. The Education Director manages development and effective implementation of a full range of child care curriculum, programs and planned activities to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all students and parents.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

ESTABLISH AND IMPLEMENT A PROGRAM PLAN

  • Develop, organize, and standardize curriculum design and developmental activities in assigned age groups. Establish curriculum needs and introduce new methods and procedures to improve the quality of instruction.
  • Direct and shape established teaching processes and techniques. Write, monitor and support lesson plan implementation.
  • Coordinate, facilitate and lead the teachers through the Accreditation process at the Disney Family Centers. Ensure Accreditation achievement, completion, compliance and maintenance.
  • Mentor new teachers and provide training in the use of educational materials and techniques. Develop action plans when concerns and improvements are identified.
  • Research and recommend design changes and implementation of educational materials and instructional methods. Determine curriculum requirements related to such changes.
  • Identify and employ best practices in systems and technology to support effective management of the Disney Child Care program. Utilize available technology, reporting tools and data that enhance program participation and student retention.
  • Establish systems for regularly scheduled inspections to ensure that curriculum materials are in good condition and utilized. Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials approved by the purchase requisition process.
  • Assist the District Executive Director with ensuring that the center is meeting or exceeding the operating level acceptable by APPLE/NAEYC and Florida Gold Seal standards.
  • Maintain and ensure all children’s immunization and health files are up-to-date. Communicate and print children’s allergy lists daily with attendance.
  • Monitor daily operations to adhere to all state, local, YMCA of Central Florida and Walt Disney World safety, licensing, health, policy and emergency standards. Ensure all staff are current with required certifications.
  • Operate the Disney Child Care site and programs in the absence of the Program Director. Act as Manager on Duty when assigned.

GROW AND RETAIN PROGRAM ENROLLMENT

  • Collaborate and maintain effective relationships with parents to maximize enrollments and ensure satisfaction in with curriculum that aligns with programming.
  • Provide regular communication to parents in support of the lesson plans, along with the milestones and development of the children within the program.
  • Conduct structured observations of teachers, including random classroom visits. Share feedback on observations with District Executive Director, Curriculum Director, and Program Directors.
  • Ensure the High Reach curriculum, YMCA School Age and/or YUSA Day Camp curriculum are being followed in the classrooms.
  • Plan and execute events at the Disney Child Care sites. Promote the Disney Child Care program and the YMCA of Central Florida’s special events among the students, parents and community.

BUILD AND MANAGE A GREAT STAFF TEAM

  • Recruit, select, develop and retain appropriate skill depth level for the site location. Supervise site staff. Support training and career succession plan for staff team.
  • Provide leadership through established performance goals and standards, regular assessment of staff performance including annual performance evaluations, and staff meetings.

PREPARE AND MANAGE THE BUDGET

  • Collaborate with the District Executive Director to plan and manage the budget. Control payroll and department purchasing costs within the budget and financial guidelines.
  • Process timecards and payroll to ensure timely, accurate reporting.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; early childhood education, special needs education or related field of study preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in managing and developing child care curriculum and programming, preschool age experience.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in staff supervision and leadership.
  • Florida Child Care Director Credential or Child Development Associate (CDA) certification preferred.
  • NAEYC accreditation process preferred.
  • Must meet the county and state licensing requirements.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; EZ-Care experience a plus.
  • Current CPR/ AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Must complete successful background screening, which includes criminal and drug screening.
  • Must have unrestricted authorization to work in the United States.

  • Must be willing to travel within Central Florida. Must have valid Florida driver license.
