  • Responsibilities
  • The Assistant Public Relations Manager is responsible to support public relations and news content initiatives to promote Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. This position works with the Senior Public Relations Manager to create and execute an annual strategic public relations and communications plan to position KSCVC as the place to visit for space and a resource for media. This position is responsible for developing a full spectrum of public relations materials for traditional and digital media including news releases, media pitches, FAQs, feature articles, website content and reports.
  • Responsible for fulfilling media, community relations and public relations requests and inquiries.
  • This person ensures that public relations and marketing materials are written in a professional, accurate and timely manner, resulting in media, sales and business outreach, creating awareness in these segments.
  • The PR assistant manager plays a key role in organizing media events to generate publicity, resulting in attendance.
  • This person supports the development of news content, working with the social media and digital media team to disseminate NASA, KSC and space exploration news content through social media and traditional media channels.
  • Write and edit: news releases (AP Style Guide), feature stories, promotional copy, web copy, news content, speeches, scripts, business reports, event signage, internal messages, FAQs, social media messaging and caption writing. Maintain media kit, fact book, digital assets library, media pitches and associated images/video. Ability to write creatively and develop story angles.
  • Media relations: Generates media interest in KSCVC programs and events. Seeks out and builds relationships with media. Coordinates media interviews, media comp ticket requests, familiarization tours for media, desk side briefings, news media kit updates, and public relations campaign planning.  Reviews filming requests and organizes and escorts crews on location shoots. Also maintains the KSCVC online press room and handles media inquiries. Researches media lists. Plans and implements news media events: visits, familiarization tours, news briefings and media opportunities. Coordinates interns to support media escorting.
  • Manage media events from planning, timetables, space requirements, signage, branding, staffing, publicity, collateral, invoices/purchase orders, post evaluation, catering, audio-visual, speaker needs, scripts, etc.
  • Measurement/Monitoring: Tabulates print, broadcast and internet coverage. Monitors news stories for trends in space, tourism and attraction industries. Coordinates interns to support measurement and monitoring.

Community Relations: supervises the fulfillment of requests for charity ticket donations, special charity events, scholarship requests, SpacePerson requests and Give Kids the World/Make-a-Wish coordination.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing or related field.
  • One to three years experience preferred in journalism, communications, public relations or related field. 
  • Tourism/hospitality experience is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communications skills required.
  • Possesses excellent writing, editing and proofing skills.
  • Must be familiar with the AP Style Guide for written materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic messaging in a compelling and newsworthy fashion.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop attention-grabbing content including titles, headlines and quotes.
  • Expert multitasker with ability to deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Must be proficient on standard office equipment as well as in word processing and spreadsheets. On the job training for online media directories and website press room.
  • Must be flexible in a rapidly changing environment and able to handle multiple projects. Personable and social.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Self –starter who takes initiative.
