SUMMARY

The Development and Marketing Director (DMD) is a dynamic, experienced fund development professional responsible to implement an ambitious fundraising plan. The DMD forges new relationships to build the Hope and Help Center’s visibility, impact, and financial resources. The DMD reports to and works closely with the Executive Director (ED), and will be responsible for designing, implementing and managing an integrated development plan including, but not limited to: marketing, events, fundraisers, HIV/AIDS awareness activities, public relations/media correspondence, social media content publication, marketing/brand messaging, legacy giving, and annual education/giving campaigns. 

S/he must implement an annual fundraising strategy, including quarterly activities and metrics. The DMD will work to foster a culture of philanthropy within the organization, and assure the organization’s structure, systems and procedures support fund development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  1. Develop and implement plans to secure corporate, government, and private individual and Foundation funding. Cultivate ongoing relationships with donors and prospective donors.

  2. Identify, cultivate, solicit, sustain, and steward existing and new individual, foundation and corporate donors; maintaining portfolio of foundations, corporate and individual donors.

  3. Direct and manage all operations of the Development and Marketing Department.

  4. Direct and manage all fundraising, educational, and partnership events.

  5. Develop and manage Development and Marketing Department budget to assure conformity with agency requirements.

  6. Plan and direct all direct-mail solicitations, including regular donor mailings and telephone campaigns.

  7. Direct gift acknowledgement process for donations.

  8. Help coordinate fundraising articles for various publications.

  9. Represent the Hope and Help Center through various speaking engagements related to development and volunteer recruitment.

  10. Report status of the Development and Marketing Department to the Executive Director and Board of Directors

  11. Maintain an annual calendar of all development and marketing activities.

  12. Network/partner with other HIV/AIDS resources agencies and local social service agencies to enhance, facilitate, expand agency services, and identify potential partnership opportunities.

  13. Oversee fundraising: write grants, research foundations and corporations, and oversee or implement other fundraising strategies.

  14. Develop and implement a strategic plan to raise funds for the organization in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner.

  15. Work with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to expand the network of donor prospects, regularly communicate, cultivate, and solicit top donors, identify opportunities for increased support, and manage events to maximize results.

  16. Participate in marketing initiatives, identify potential sources of demand and articulating strategy for branding, marketing, and public relations; create a streamlined, consistent message to clients, potential clients, community partners, and donors.

  17. Work various hours including weekends.

  18. Maintain a consistent and constant relationship with the general public through various methods of outreach including, but not limited to: marketing, events, fundraisers, HIV/AIDS awareness activities, public relations/media correspondence, social media content publication, marketing/brand messaging, and annual education/giving campaigns.

  19. Plan, coordinate, and supervise all aspects of marketing and fundraising to meet annual income projections for the general and administrative budget.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    Performs other work-related duties and special projects as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position supervises those in the Development and Marketing Department, which currently consist of Development Manager, an Events Manager, and related volunteers.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL OF:

  • Modern office practices, procedures, and equipment

  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Concepts and principles of infectious diseases in adult HIV-positive patients

  • HIPAA laws

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to easily connect with others and effectively collaborate

  • Strong strategic planning skills and be capable of developing and implementing clear goals, systems, and priorities

  • Compose a variety of attractive and effective written materials, including usage of superior vocabulary, grammatical, and proofreading skills

  • Plan, solicit, and coordinate benefits for the agency

  • Be sensitive to issues involved in working in a multi-cultural, community-based organization

  • Manage a complex workload with high production requirements

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, or related field and a minimum of five (5) or more years’ experience in development/fundraising activities, including event planning, communications, and marketing or a minimum of ten (10) or more years’ experience in development/fundraising activities, including event planning, communications, and marketing.
