Student Success Specialist

Summary:
The Student Success Specialist administers policies relating to all aspects of the Student Success Department including the facilitation of reasonable accommodations for students with qualifying disabilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct welcome meetings with new students to discuss “plan for success,” assess needs, and arrange accommodations for those students when appropriate
- Coordinate peer tutoring and supplemental instruction program Act as a learning consultant for active students
- Design and teach curriculum for SSS seminars, both on campus and online
- Refer students to outside agencies (counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists) when appropriate or requested
- Assist SSS students in self-advocating with faculty and staff. Advocate for them when necessary and appropriate
- Attend any necessary meetings/trainings interdepartmentally and otherwise
- Participate in extra curricular/student appreciation activities hosted by Student Affairs
- Maintain the integrity of the policies and procedures and ensure compliance with disability law (ADA and section 504)

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree required, Masters degree preferred, with emphasis on Psychology, Education or Counseling. Background in teaching and/or counseling and experience with special needs students preferred. Minimum three (3) years relevant work experience.
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active customer and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system; enter alpha-numeric data into a computerized system often while listening on the telephone. May be subject to; bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.
