Description of Work

This position will be responsible for assisting higher-grade mechanics with equipment repairs. 
This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Completes scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance on all systems and safety equipment on transit coaches for safe operators.
  • Carries out ordinary mechanical, hydraulic or structural maintenance, repairs and adjustments.
  • Determines the source of trouble.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts or makes changes as instructed.
  • Refers difficult or unusual problems to higher-grade employees for guidance or repair.
  • Executes field repairs on road failures and tows buses if necessary.
  • Repairs engines; replaces all external components.
  • Replaces all external electronic engine and transmission controls and sensors.
  • Repairs transmissions; replaces all external components.
  • Replaces engine/transmission assemblies and accessories.
  • Replaces all air system components and relines brakes.
  • Repairs and replaces all steering and suspension components.
  • Performs basic electrical diagnoses and repairs.
  • Performs minor repairs, component replacement and Schedule ??inspections on wheelchair lifts.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

 Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  •  Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  •  Ability to bend, stoop, walk, stretch, kneel, and lift 50 lbs.
  •  Ability to work as part of a team.
  •  Ability to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  •  Ability to pass physical and drug screen.
  • Ability to work in open bays, inside buses and outside in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with commercial cleaners and toxic materials.
  • Ability to provide own tools.
  • Ability to possess a current Florida CDL license or permit, Class B with a P Airbrakes endorsement.
  •  Ability to effectively communicate in English, both orally and in writing.

Minimum Education and Experience

High School diploma or equivalent and two (2) years experience in transit or heavy vehicle maintenance and one (1) year technical school; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
 

This position is part of a bargaining unit.

Pay Rate:  $18.08
