SUMMARY: 

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for all payroll processing activities at the company, including time and attendance, bi-weekly payroll processing for approximately 250 employees and administrative responsibilities for the Corporate Services Department.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet the business needs.  

·      Responsible for the overall maintenance of the ADP payroll system

·      Responsible for maintaining and adjusting entries in the time and attendance system

·      Inputting new hires, changes, and terminations

·      Auditing and correcting payroll and benefit information prior to transmission

·      Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll and benefit deductions

·      Calculate pay, manual checks, overtime, and paid-time off accruals as needed

·      Enter benefit deductions and garnishments

·      Audit insurance premium billings

·      Process employment verifications

·      Assist with the annual Open Enrollment process

·      Maintain employee personnel files – both paper and electronic copies

·      First-level support for both managers and employees regarding payroll and time cards

·      Liaison with Finance Department to ensure proper transmission of payroll data to the general ledger

·      Administrative assistance to the Corporate Services Department – filing, calendar maintenance, expense reports, incoming mail, organization charts, etc.  

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:  

·      Must be comfortable handling confidential information in a discreet, tactful, and mature manner

·      Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

·      Ability to deliver exceptional internal customer service

·      Proven ability to build strong working relationships will all levels of the organization

·      Working knowledge of Excel – ability to create basic formulas, build and maintain spreadsheets, create ad-hoc reports

·      High-school level math required to calculate manual checks, hours worked, overtime, and other payroll calculations

·      Understands boundaries and limits of authority – escalates issues appropriately and on a timely basis

·      Understands and applies company polices fairly with regards to payroll, time and attendance, benefits administration, and paid time off

·      Ability to research payroll and benefits administration issues and clearly present findings to management for review  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

·      High-school diploma or equivalent required; AS/BS degree preferred

·      1-2 years of payroll processing experience
