Baler Operator

Summary: 

The Baler Operator is responsible for receiving, separating and loading waste paper and cardboard into balers in addition to multiple warehouse support duties. The Baler Operator is a member of the warehouse team who coordinates the operation and daily cleaning of the baler and the surrounding area. The Baler Operator is a team player that contributes to a safe and harmonious work environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Work in a safe manner; use and wear required safety equipment at all times
• Comply with proper safety policies and procedures
• Ensure all bales are properly tied and ready for shipping
• Ensure quality standards are met for bales going on trailers for shipment
• Maintain sufficient empty buggies to support manufacturing productivity
• Maintain a running count of all bales processed for the day
• Operate a forklift and other material handling equipment
• Perform operator level maintenance and daily cleaning
• Submit trailer log of bales and weight for shipping to Shipping Office
• Replace corrugated collection containers throughout the facility
• Load bales into the appropriate transportation containers
• Keep work area clean and free of debris
• Oversee the bale storage area is kept neat and orderly
• Perform other duties as required

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, use hands or fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear
• Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and bend frequently
• Vision ability for close objects and for distance

Work environment

This is a warehouse environment that includes:

• Unheated and non air-conditioned conditions
• Machinery noise level varies from moderate to loud

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Perform basic math calculations such as adding and subtraction

Education and Training

Required

·         Demonstrated mechanical aptitude

·         Minimum one year in a manufacturing or warehouse environment

·         Fork lift certification

·         Strong team orientation

·         Ability to work with minimal supervision

·         Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends and overtime

Preferred:

• Ability to perform light maintenance on baler equipment
