Lab Specialist - Sports Media

Winter Park, Florida

Summary:
The Sports Media course is an exploration of the relationship between sports, sports businesses, and the media, both advanced and traditional. The course examines a wide scope of media platforms and their historical and current roles in sports business and marketing strategy, including broadcast, cable, satellite, interactive TV (including regional sports networks and their territorial rights), radio (all formats), social media, mobile media, the role of conglomerates (such as Comcast/Universal, Disney/ABC, and Newscorp), online media (blogs, podcasts, Web 2.0), and location-based media (such as retail signage). Students will examine the methods used to collect and process information and apply it to marketing sports services and products, with a focus on direct marketing and indirect public relations. Lab Specialists may be required to teach both on-campus and online. All positions are full time, on-campus in Winter Park, FL.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create an environment of learning through effective teaching skills, maintain student-centered focus, and update curriculum to keep current and relevant to industry standards.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and encourage active learning.
  • Facilitate labs for campus courses and hold scheduled virtual meetings for online courses.
  • Interact positively with diverse student populations; provide all students with equal opportunities for learning.
  • Provide timely, regular responses and constructive feedback to students to support the learning process.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the industry, maintain knowledge and skill relevancy through continuing education as defined in the faculty development plan.

Education and/or Experience:
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of four (4) years related and verifiable work experience or hold a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Communications, Sports Management or related discipline from an accredited college or university required.

Skills:

  • Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Broad base knowledge of sports business and/or sports marketing practices, as well as proficiency with software including iLife and Adobe Creative Suite products, and a technology package that will include a video camera and other video production equipment
  • The ideal candidate will be able to work with both campus and online  students, under minimal supervision and with changing work hours
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, passion to encourage learning, being a self-motivated team member, and the ability to help develop and present curriculum. Previous experience with Full Sail is a plus

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office and classroom environment.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active student and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system. May be subject to; bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.
