Scope of Job:

To develop proactive management systems and build upon existing management systems and culture to ensure a high standard of Health & Safety across the business, integration of Health & Safety standards and culture into all working practices across the organization, and a proactive and effective management of associated business risks across the Resort. To assist, advise, and monitor CAPEX and Resort expansion projects to ensure a safe delivery.

Key Objectives:                                             

1.            To implement, develop and maintain the Resort Health & Safety strategy and culture to ensure a high standard of Health & Safety management across the Resort.

2.            To champion Health & Safety issues at Senior Leadership level and provide direction and ensure the provision of training within the context of the wider business needs.

3.            Develop and monitor proactive management systems and build upon existing management systems for Health & Safety and associated Business risks across the Resort.

4.            To liaise with and manage relationships with the enforcement authorities on all matters relating to Health & Safety of employees, guests, third party operating participant companies, and contractors.

Main Responsibilities:

1.            Operations

•             To implement, develop, and maintain the Resort Health & Safety strategy and culture to ensure a high standard of Health & Safety management across the Resort.

•             Ensure that all Group Health & Safety initiatives are effectively communicated, implemented, and managed at the Resort.

•             Ensure the provision of Health & Safety guidance and training to all levels of management for the protection of employees, guests, third party operating participants and contractors.

•             Consistently manage complex issues and situations with no obvious or prescribed solutions.

•             Liaise with and/or manage relationships with external auditors and enforcement authorities in relation to all matters pertaining to H&S.

•             Develop and maintain an effective risk assessment strategy/culture and via auditing ensure that all risk assessments are of suitable and sufficient standard.

•             Conduct internal safety audits to monitor safety performance against prescribed standards and provide feedback to leadership teams as appropriate.

•             Contribute to the development and harmonization of safety standards across the business through active participation in relevant Merlin Group Safety Forums and others as appropriate.

•             Provide the Senior Leadership team with advice and regular status reports on safety issues and performance reviews.

2.            Marketing

•             Working closely with the Marketing Director and PR Manager on any H&S matters which may impact the image of LEGOLAND Florida Resort, and to promote a positive external image of the company as a leader in safety, environmental, and conservation issues.

3.            Financial

•             Effectively manage the Health & Safety budget.

•             Forecast budgeting for future spends of CAPEX on safety infrastructure.

•             Develop and implement cost effective Health & Safety management prevention strategies to control direct and indirect costs involving guests, employees, third party operating participants, and contractors.

•             Identify and evaluate new initiatives that will promote cost effectiveness and reduction of costs across the Resort.

•             Ensure that effective safety planning includes realistic short and long term objectives, and that a cost benefit analysis approach is utilized to determine priorities and establish performance standards.

•             Design and implement measurable safety initiatives that clearly add value to the bottom line.

4.            Development

•             Assist, provide guidance, and monitor CAPEX and Resort expansion projects to ensure a safe delivery.

•             Identify and drive Health & Safety initiatives/standards to support business expansion.

5.            People

•             To champion Health & Safety issues at Senior Leadership Team level and provide direction and ensure the provision of training within the context of the wider business needs.

•             Liaise with Heads of Department to identify safety training needs and ensure that safety training programs undertaken reflect the needs of the business and the delegates involved

•             Effectively communicate with all levels, from Senior Leadership to front-line Associates, to market safety awareness, proactive management of Health & Safety risks, and to create a positive Health & Safety culture.

•             Develops and leads a professional, efficient, and effective Health &Safety Team.  Act as a role model in leading this through The Merlin Way.

•             Manage team turnover within group targets.

•             Is responsible for hiring, training, development, performance management, team building, and other culture and people management activities.

•             In conjunction with Human Resources, ensures a succession management program is in place able to meet the current and future organizational objectives.

•             Promotes and demonstrates LEGO’s and Merlin’s culture and core values through words and actions. 

•             Establish employee training, motivation and evaluation aimed at a reduction in turnover and focus on employee engagement and retention.

•             Functions as stakeholder in terms of employee engagement survey results with regards to Health & Safety and implements an action plan to improve YOY with monthly reviews.

•             Ensure adherence to policies and procedures, effectively managing and documenting employee relations.
