CLASSIFICATION:    Chief Electrical Inspector

HOURS:    40+ Hours per week

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    Current State of Florida Certification as a Commercial and Residential Electrical Inspector

and Electrical Plans Examiner. Supervisory experience is required. Graduation from high school or vocational

school; preferably supplemented by college-level course work in Electrical engineering; and some experience at the

level of Electrical Inspector. Must have ten years of experience in the electrical trade.  Thorough knowledge of

all laws and regulations governing electrical installations. Ability to read plans and specifications and to

determine their compliance with established standards. Thorough knowledge of possible defects and flaws in

electrical wiring, equipment, and appliances and how to respond to these situations through the use of corrective

measures. Thorough knowledge of the methods, materials and techniques involved in constructing, installing,

maintaining, and operating a variety of electrical systems, equipment and appliances, and of standard testing

devices. Must possess excellent written and oral communications skills. Some knowledge of the principles and

practices of office management. Must possess a valid Florida Driver License and maintain insurability under the

District's commercial vehicle coverage.

RESPONSIBILITIES:    Directly supervises the employees in the Electrical Division. Carries out supervisory

responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Assists in the enforcement of the electrical ordinances of the District and State.  Responsibilities include

training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining

employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Inspects electrical installations and equipment for

verification of compliance with rules and regulations of the EPCOT Electrical Code. Reviews electrical plans and

specifications for verification of compliance with the EPCOT Electrical Code. Compiles reports and issues notices

regarding plans, specifications, installations and equipment found to not comply with the rules and regulations of

the EPCOT Electrical Code. Keeps records of all inspections and reviews. Prepares reports for use by administrative

or judicial authorities. Confers with and advises applicants, design professionals, and others regarding use and

application of the EPCOT Electrical Code. Investigates incidents to determine if electrical equipment and

installations contributed to the situation and to verify the safety of electrical equipment and installations for

post-incident use.  Participates in emergency power testing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or

hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands

and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The

employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include

close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

PAY:    Pay ranges between $1,219 and $1,580 per week.
