Job Description

SUMMARY

The Compliance Paralegal is responsible for providing research and analysis, and general assistance for a variety of compliance functions and a broad range of legal matters and proceedings. The Compliance Paralegal will help to ensure GTE’s compliance with all federal, state and local laws - with an emphasis on Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, and OFAC, as well as to provide quality and general paralegal support to General Counsel. The Requirements of the job include legal/paralegal experience, excellent researching and analytical skills, knowledge of credit union and/or financial institution policies and procedures, and knowledge of compliance regulation.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY

Under the direction of the General Counsel the Compliance Paralegal has the responsibility to perform the following essential functions:

Essential Functions:

Assist the legal/compliance department in its legal and regulatory functions. Research legal and regulatory issues as requested Provide reports and analysis on research conducted as required and or requested Create legal summaries and recommendations based off research conducted On an as needed basis assist General Counsel with e-filing, reviewing of pleadings/motions, communicating with opposing counsel, coordinating and calendaring judicial hearings Maintaining and managing legal portfolio database Handle ongoing evaluation of continuous regulatory changes and the impact to credit union operations. Assist in research, procedures and disclosures for existing and new products/services. Includes research and verification through numerous sources such as Compliance Manager, management, government regulations and federal/state laws. Perform daily, weekly and periodic activities related to CTRs, SARs, and FinCEN 314 requests. Conduct enhanced due diligence on members identified as being high risk. Conducting research and analysis through public records, media or other research tools Review of OFAC reports and potential matches. Monitor for and report on CIP exceptions. Supporting staff on BSA/AML/OFAC/CIP issues. Work closely with and assist the Compliance Manager in preparing for audits/examinations, and in responding to corrective action recommendations as necessary Perform other duties as assigned.

Effective oral and written communication, analytical and research skills Proficient in E-filing legal documents Ability to understand laws and regulations (including BSA/AML regulations) and their relevance to credit union operations. Relevant laws and regulations include but are not limited to: Regulation B/Equal Credit Opportunity Act, Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention & Consumer Protection Act, Bank Bribery Act, Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, Regulation C/Home Mortgage Disclosures Act, Regulation CC/Funds Availability, Check 21/Check Clearing for the 21st Century Act, Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, Regulation D, Dodd-Frank, Regulation E, Regulation J, E-SIGN/Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, FACT Act/Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act, FCRA/Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Housing Act, Flood Disaster Protection Act, Gramm Leach Bliley Act, Homeowner’s Protection Act, Truth in Savings Act, Right to Financial Privacy Act, NCUA Privacy Regulations, RESPA/Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act, S.A.F.E Act, Service Members Civil Relief Act, Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, Florida Consumer Protection Collections Practices Act, Regulation Z, UCC/Uniform Commercial Code Must be proficient with MS Office. OSI host system knowledge preferred. Ability to quickly learn and use BSA/AML software. Ability to work well with all levels of management and staff. Ability to adapt to a changing environment at a fast pace. Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines. Proficient in preparing and recording documentation professionally and accurately.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary to accomplish objectives, goals, and projects. Vision and hearing (or corrected) to normal range.  

Required Experience

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a related filed and or Paralegal Certification preferred, may be waived with equivalent experience. Three to five year of work experience in a financial institution/law office with legal and compliance experience preferred.
