POSITION TITLE:    Director of Human Resources

 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:

Visit Orlando is looking for a Director of Human Resources.  This person will Direct the daily operational activities of Human Resources department. Participates in the development of policy and coordinates human resources activities, such as employment, compensation, labor relations, benefits, training, and employee services. Formulates partnerships with employees and management to deliver value added service that reflects the business objectives of the organization. Recommends policies and practices to VP of HR and senior management. 


MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Recruits, interviews, tests and works with hiring managers to select candidates to fill vacant positions.  This includes deciding appropriate recruiting sources and ensures a diverse pool of candidates is being considered for the positions.
  • Advises management team on appropriate resolutions for employee relations issues and works to ensure those resolutions occur.  Works with managers and prepares performance improvement plans as necessary.
  • Responds to staff and management inquiries regarding policy, procedure and programs.
  • Supports VP with research, special projects and requests.
  • Administers along with VP the performance management program to ensure effectiveness, compliance and equity within organization. Provides necessary information, training and guidance to senior management on utilization of performance management software tool. Meets with managers as needed during the annual process.
  • Works with VP to build and make recommendations for departmental budget for the Human Resources Department. This includes pulling prior year expenses, researching new items, making recommendations for new programs as well as entering the budget information into the system and maintaining it throughout the year including forecasting. 
  • Acts as project manager for compensation review and salary structure implementation. Runs reports and updates spreadsheets as necessary for compensation consultant during periodic market reviews.

  • Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation and conducts exit interviews as needed and/or in VP’s absence.
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the HR Rep, the HR Coordinator and the Receptionist. Hold bi-weekly or weekly one on ones to ensure regular communication. Writes annual development plans and performs annual performance reviews.
  • Responsible for data governance of HR data. Oversees data entry by the HR Rep and HR Coordinator to ensure the HRIS database is accurate and updated timely. Builds and runs reports periodically to audit data. Responsible for record-keeping and archiving compliance.
  • Work with the management team as needed to develop or re-write job descriptions.
  • Act as primary contact for 401(k) Vendor and 401(k) consultant and participate in the 401(k) Advisory Committee. Schedules committee meetings. Maintains current knowledge of 401(k) plan. Keeps updated documents. Meets with COO/CFO as necessary on updates to plan.
  • Assists VP in the development of various human resources plans and procedures for the organization; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures including Employee Handbook.
  • Participates in developing departmental goals, objectives and systems.
  • Works with VP and Group Insurance Broker to develop the benefits package offered to team members. Participates in the final analysis of group insurance plans and communication of employee benefit programs at open enrollment meetings, etc.
  • Works with VP to ensure all Federal, State and Local compliance regulations are being followed.
  • Attends Human Resources training as appropriate to maintain current legal compliance information and HR best practices.
  • Develops and maintains good relationships with employment agencies. And calls in orders for temporary and temp-to-hire assignments.
  • Responsible for the planning of employee events including gathering organizational objective/goals for the event, development of the budget, engagement of Event planning partners internally and externally for logistical support.
  • Drafts and sends employee communications on all topics.  Works with Associate VP, CEO and COO as needed for quarterly updates to the team.  
  • Collects bi-monthly HR status update information from Rep, Coordinator and Receptionist and formats document to submit to VP.
  • Attends monthly department head meetings. Submits agenda items as appropriate. Speaks to agenda items at meeting.
  • Acts as back up to Rep to perform benefit administration.

ACCOUNTABILITIES FOR SUPERVISION:

  1. Participates in decisions related to the selection, promotion, transfer, pay and discipline of assigned personnel.
  2. Personally conducts or oversees training for new employees to ensure established procedures are clearly understood and followed.
  3. Monitors the work performance of assigned personnel on a continual basis, conducts effective performance appraisals and takes corrective action whenever necessary.
  4. Creates a working climate in which assigned personnel are motivated to develop their skills and abilities and demonstrates by personal example the desired standards of conduct and work performance.
  5. Administers company policies in a fair and equitable manner with regard to discipline, tardiness, absenteeism or insubordination and fully documents all incidents and actions taken.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; a minimum of 10 years related experience. Strong HR Generalist experience. Strong HRIS experience. Experience in managing a team. Compensation management experience. Ability to analyze data. Experience in benefits oversight. Performance management experience. Strong recruiting experience. Budget management a plus.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Outlook and Word is required.  Must have experience and be proficient using a recognized human resources software system (HRB by ADP preferred).  Some experience with a payroll software system would be a plus. Some experience with performance management software preferred.
