The Manufacturing Engineer provides manufacturing leadership and processes expertise to continuously improve yield, throughput, quality and safety of manufacturing processes. Leads projects to implement new products, processes and materials into the production phase in order to improve cost competitiveness and customer satisfaction. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES: 

  • Assists with piloting and release of new customized products, prototypes or processes introduced to the manufacturing floor through the change control processes
  • Develops mechanical design and drafting of production tooling and machinery
  • Performs cost studies to determine lowest cost of manufacturing and coordinates the implementation of these changes with suppliers
  • Performs work break-down and Takt time analysis to determine best manufacturing process break-down and layout
  • Possesses knowledge of DFA and DFM tools and ability to transfer these requirements into product development initiatives
  • Understands and interprets engineering drawings, process specifications and design intents. Understands and interprets 3D models; understands and interprets geometric tolerance, design intent, primary design features, and tolerance stack up
  • Generates engineering process instructions and sketches to ANSI standards
  • Program manages all First Article purchase orders by organizing a schedule, tooling requirements to design, inspection and manufacturing processes
  • Generates sketches and validate dimensions utilizing modeling software and documentation related to new products, such as manufacturing drawings, desk instructions and test procedures
  • Conducts troubleshooting / failure analysis of current products
  • Supports the logistics department for vendor specification and evaluation
  • Communicates with internal and external customers, suppliers, other company personnel providing technical expertise and counsel as required
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and rectifies product performance issues
  • Prepares materials and other relevant product specification for internal company use

                   

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years related work experience required preferably in a manufacturing environment 

Computer Skills

  • Proficiency using Pro/Engineer 2001, Pro/E Wildfire, AutoCAD Solid Works or Master CAM desirable
  • MS Office or equivalent 

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current ANSI design and drafting standards required
  • Familiarity with common manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and brazing techniques required
  • Ability to communicate and interface well with others
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9000, Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments
  • Proven use of process improvement tools and knowledge of fault/failure confinement, resolution and ongoing root cause elimination
  • Strong problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Six Sigma certification (Green/Black Belt) preferred
  • Committed, dedicated and self-motivated working ethics, with full ownership of projects or assigned tasks
