HOURS:    40 Hours per week (Salary Exempt)

REQUIRED:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science or related field.
  • Fire Officer I & II certification.
  • FL EMT.
  • State of Florida Firefighter certification.
  • Seven to ten years of experience in a related position.

 

 

PREFERRED:

 

  • FL Paramedic certification.
  • Fire Safety Inspector certification.
  • Fire Service Instructor certification (within 1 year).
  • Fire Department Safety Officer certification.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:    Perform functions to analyze and coordinate administrative services for the Emergency Services Department. Ensure the department is meeting objectives set forth by statute, administrative code, and fire chief, making decisions based on conclusions for which there is little precedent.
    
Provide oversight and direction for 911 Communications, Logistics, and Health & Safety departments. Analyze and coordinate administrative services for Emergency Services such as personnel management, budget preparation, record and document control, short and long range planning, and community risk assessments. Revise department management methods as necessary in order to improve workflow, simplify reporting procedures, and implement cost reductions. Create, edit, and review department operating guidelines, procedures and policies as necessary. Conduct and/or provide oversight for internal affairs and professional standards investigations. Coordinate collection and preparation of department operating and performance reports. Analyze reports and prepare final statistical/budgetary reports for the Fire Chief. Train and assign department team members. Provide technological oversight, direction and mentoring, develop and communicate performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of team, both as a department and individually. Evaluate performance and provide counseling, cross training and coaching to employees. Maintain harmonious team/employer relations. Assist with Union negotiations/labor relations. Work closely with Human Resources department, and conduct grievance meetings as necessary. Maintain working relationship with District’s Risk Management department to review and consult on Workman’s Compensation and other safety matters. 

Provide command and control of personnel actions and movement during emergency scene operations. Participate in unified command and assume direct command of emergency incidents. Present information through presentations to the public and media. Assume the role of Fire Chief as assigned. Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements,  and policies. Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Demonstrate knowledge of Microsoft Office and other specialty computer software programs. Strong analytical, interpersonal and verbal/written communications skills, with the ability to lead public speaking seminars. Demonstrate skills in planning, managing, organizing, coordinating, and directing department programs and services. Broad knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations. Strong reasoning, negotiating and multi-tasking skills. Florida Driver License and insurability required.
