Education Specialist: Curriculum and Instruction
Full time benefited position. In coordination with the Vice President of Education, this individual will lead and develop program curricula for the Education Department specifically focusing on teacher professional development for K-12 educators. Additionally this position will review and provide curriculum support to, school programs, offsites, afterschool and camps. Programs will be age/grade appropriate, aligned to state standards and benchmarks and other correlated standards as needed. This position requires individuals who are comfortable speaking in front of large audiences and delivering hands-on science instruction to guests of all ages. The daily functions of this position consist of but are not limited to: Engaging and educating teachers and staff about various sciences, technology, engineering and math (STEM) and various informal pedagogy methods with the use of age appropriate demonstrations and hands-on activities in an informal setting. In addition, they will deliver educational content in one the following ways: hands-on workshops, teacher professional development, auditorium programming, and floor demonstrations both on and off museum grounds.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for developing and leading all professional development workshops for K-12 educators.
- Create and deliver trainings to the education staff.
- Write and develop all science curricula for the Education Department including; camps, scouts, overnights, teacher professional development, and school programs.
- Complete routine program evaluations of education staff and provide feedback to management as needed.
- Update existing programs and content as needed.
- Ensure age appropriateness in all programs and alignment with order of instruction and science benchmarks.
- School based curriculum will include pre and post activities and will require assessment.
- Monitor quality control for all education curricula.
- Work with external partners as needed and ensure completion of grant and sponsor deliverables for education projects.
- Responsible for delivering OSC curriculum and engaging students and guests in hands-on activities and demonstrations as needed.
- Maintains a safe and secure environment for guests and staff.
- Keeps current in science and education related to OSC’s content and exhibits.
- Demonstrates commitment to OSC's vision, mission and values.
- Must be able to travel and work flexible hours including overnight trips, early mornings, nights and weekends as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Qualified candidates should hold a bachelor degree in education, science, or a related field and have a minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in an informal setting working with teachers and students in grades K-12. A valid driver’s license is required.

Preferred Skills
Applicant should hold a bachelor degree in education, science, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Applicant should have experience in teaching, curriculum development, and delivering educational programming in an informal setting (museum, zoo, nature preserve).
Working knowledge of Science and Engineering process skills preferred.

Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift 30lbs.
