Salary: $12.00 per hour
Schedule: Approximately 20 - 25 per week - Rotates from week to week but will include early morning, evenings and/or weekends around center hours
Important Information: Must begin childcare training hours within 90 days and complete within 180 days. Must obtain first aid/CPR within 6 months of being hired
Primary child care assignment:
* 6:30 AM - 8:45 AM and 2:00 PM - 6:30 PM
* May Include a split shift with early morning and afternoon hours
* May also be required to work occasional evenings and weekends around center hours and other hours as assigned
Center Hours:
Monday / Wednesday: 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Tuesday / Thursday: 7:00 AM - 9:00 PM
Friday: 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM
Saturday: 8:00 AM -3:30 PM
Sunday: 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM
Responsible for before- after- and schools out Day Care Programs. Also provides support to staff to effectively carry out the activities of the City of Largo's Recreation, Parks or Arts programs. Implements, plans, supervises, and participates in one or more leisure activities. Work is performed with some independence in achieving objectives and in carrying out activities in accordance with established policies and procedures. Individuals in this class receive direction from an assigned supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans and executes leisure activities and fitness classes including sports, arts and crafts, drama, special events, environmental education, tours, field trips, etc.
* Works directly with child care programming
* Participates in teaching one or more leisure activities. May supervise a group of children; including planning activities and administering discipline in a camp situation or after school program.
* Opens, closes, and secures the facility and ensures all rules and regulations of the facilities are enforced.
* Ensures all precautions are taken in the maintaining participants' safety.
* Assures the safety, welfare and well being of children enrolled in programs.
* Assists in training staff and volunteers.
* Inputs and retrieves data from the computer.
* Maintains communication between customers and other staff.
* Supports the division and the department in external activities.
* Processes documents and applications pertaining to membership and registrations.
* Collects activity fees and processes payments.
* Prepares daily activity reports.
* Assists with the maintenance, opening, and securing of the facility and equipment.
* May be responsible for the department's public relations by designing and updating the bulletin board, marquees, and fliers as requested.
* Tracks daily facility attendance, and may track financial activities.
* Administers first aid when necessary and completes appropriate reports.
* Sets up and breaks down rooms for activities as appropriate.
* Participates in maintenance of facility cleanliness.
* May complete daily fitness/safety inspections.
* Performs related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Training and Experience:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of rules, techniques, and equipment requirements of a variety of recreation activities. Must have leadership ability. Ability to give and receive oral and written communications. Ability to deal with people tactfully and diplomatically. Ability to do light to heavy manual work. Skill in the activities or programs for which hired.
JOB PROFILE:
Work Environment: 40% inside a climate controlled building. 60% outside which may include driving. Depending on assignment, work environments may vary significantly.
Physical Requirements: The essential functions of the job require: sitting approximately two (2) hours per day, standing approximately four (4) hours per day, and walking approximately two (2) hours per day. The work often requires: bending/stooping, climbing, crawling, fine manipulations, grasping, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting/carrying of objects weighing up to 15 pounds, lifting/carrying of objects weighing 15 to 44 pounds, and lifting/carrying of objects weighing 45 pounds and over.
Sensory Requirements: Hearing: Enough to understand what others are saying in normal conversation in person and on the telephone, and to hear children. Speaking: Enough to communicate orally with others in person and on the telephone Seeing: Enough to see and read computer monitor screens, supervise children, and if assigned, perform tennis court maintenance.
Driving Requirements: The work requires frequent driving and possession of a valid Florida Class "E" Driver License.
Office Machines: The work requires the ability to operate the following office machines: multi-line telephones, fax machines, copiers, cash machines, laminators, park radio, computers, grounds maintenance tools. and may operate a tennis court tractor.

- High School Diploma or GED
- Six months experience in child care, recreation or related field and customer service experience is required.
- Certification in CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) first aid required within 6 month from date of hire.
- Candidates with Staff Member in Charge Certification (SMIC) will be granted preference.
