Description

The Cytogenetics Technologist II performs all aspects of cytogenetics processing and analysis including: sample set up, harvesting of samples, dropping and banding of slides for analysis, FISH slide preparation and probing, scanning slides (both FISH and chromosome) and analyzing these cells or nuclei. Analysis includes imaging and karyotyping of specimens. A Cytogenetics Technologist II will also summarize test results and write the karyotype or FISH nomenclature. May also write case reports in preparation for director-level sign-out. Reviews test requisitions to gather pertinent information for culture set-up and case analysis. Is able to distinguish between normal and abnormal test results and troubleshoots and improves lab procedures. Independently performs lab tasks and projects (as approved) directed at education, developing new technologies or procedures. Helps cytogenetics technologist I get proficient at different lab tasks and check to make sure that they are performing to standard. Maintains quality control records. Required certification includes American Society for Clinical Pathology in Cytogenetics (ASCPCG) AND a Florida Clinical Cytogenetics License. Experience requirement: 3 years of clinical cytogenetics experience in a CLIA certified laboratory.
