Starting Salary Ranges:
- Construction Inspector I: $18.86 to 23.00 per hour, depending on qualifications (Grade 14)
- Construction Inspector II: $20.19 to 27.00 per hour, depending on qualifications (Grade 13)
NATURE OF WORK:
Performs responsible technical field inspection and office work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction, and renovation of buildings, structures, wastewater treatment facilities and other public works projects. Work involves inspection of buildings and structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations, and requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, or mechanical field as well as in-depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application.
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR I: Associate degree in civil or environmental engineering, building construction, or project management, plus three years experience in site construction; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Florida driver license required. Must pass criminal check and polygraph examination.
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR II: Same as Construction Inspector I, above, except requires five years experience as specified, and requires American Concrete Institute (ACI) Level I (Field Testing Technician) certificate.
VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
