Responsible for overseeing and directing the Show-Set Design staff as well as establishing, maintaining, and driving Creative Show-Set Design standards. Leads the development of show set drawing packages depicting design and art direction for all show/scenic components coordinated with show, ride, and facility information. Collaborates with Show Producers, Creative and Art Directors, Attraction Design Manager, Production Design Manager, and Ride/Show Engineers to manage work quality and assignments. Responsible for designing to project program and budget while coordinating and integrating with internal and external partners.

  • Oversees Show-Set Design staff to ensure that project creative intent is accurately integrated and documented in models and drawing packages.
  • Assists the lead Designer or Creative Director in the development of details creatively integrating the myriad show, facility, equipment, and elements into the overall creative environment
  • Mentors and provides guidance and training to staff related to career goals and technical skills. Motivates staff to accomplish assignment goals. Builds bench strength within the staff by identifying training and development opportunities. Leads staff and communicates job expectations, planning, coaching. Develops and implements policies, procedures, and show set design and programming standards.
  • Oversees and directs internal and external resources. With the Sr. Director Creative Design, identifies talent and resources and requirements necessary to complete projects. Creates resource plans in coordination with show producer to validate schedule and expectations. During all phases of the project Oversees and identifies work assignments for the design staff, including production and installation, in a manner that meets the project creative intent, schedule and budget. Initiates and organizes design reviews as often as needed during the process. Oversees show vendors and consultants to maintain the integrity of the original design during all phases of the project.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining Show-Set design standards. Manages Standards creation, update, review and approval. Communicates and disseminates Standards on an ongoing basis.
  • During design, participates in design, cost, schedule and technical reviews. Responsible for developing creative design, color boards, sketching, drafting, and models and other creative output that outline solutions to integrate elements into a themed environment. Evaluates sightlines, visual intrusion and concealment of non-theatrical equipment within an 'on-stage' environment.
  • As directed by the Show Producer, Creative Director, Art Director, or the Production Designer, develops, organizes and assembles overall high quality show set design package.
  • Utilizes various drafting techniques and tools (e.g. AutoCAD, ADOBE Graphics software, 3D software, etc.) to draw, draft and create dimensional scale drawings and models detailing construction methods and the integration of various show elements with each other and the facility.
  • Responsible for designing to project program and budget, and for coordinating and integrating with other disciplines including but not limited to engineering, operations, and architect/engineer of record.
  • Establishes, builds, and maintains positive and productive team relationships based on open communication, trust and teamwork with project partners, departments, disciplines, and personnel. Communicates, inspires, and maintains project intent among all staff-members.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of presentations and presentation artwork outlining creative goals and intent to gain internal and external approvals.

SCOPE: Will work in all phases of projects as directed, from blue sky though to project closeout, design and field installation. Will be assigned to a wide range of tasks and project sizes and types.

  • Must have creative, artistic and illustration skills and ability.
  • Must be a creative thinker and problem solver with strong technical ability with various design techniques/tools such as show set / scenic design and drafting, 3D modeling, architectural design, and/or others.

EDUCATION: Associate's degree (AA) required. Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Fine Arts, Design, Theater, Graphics or Computer Technology or degree in other related field is preferred.

  • 7-10 Years: within attraction development environment is required. 10+ Years: within attraction development environment is preferred. 5-7 years experience as a show set designer in a world class theme park environment is preferred.

  • Must have successfully designed, developed and assembled several project show set design packages. Must be proficient in AutoCAD.
