The Vice President of Legal Affairs, Universal Parks & Resorts (UPR) is responsible for managing legal aspects of domestic and international commercial transactions, drafting and negotiating complex commercial and real estate agreements, including international agreements and providing advice and guidance for UPR operations and licensing. The Vice President of UPR Legal Affairs is also responsible for legal negotiations, drafting and interpreting intellectual property agreements, third party management agreements and handling transactions and other general legal matters as they pertain to Universal Parks & Resorts.

  • Manages complex domestic and international commercial, intellectual property, financing and real estate transactions, including drafting, interpretation and negotiation of complex contracts and agreements, including third party service, intellectual property, licensing, management, sponsorship and other legal documentation, and dispute resolution with contracted parties with various UPR entities.
  • Provide legal review and analysis relating to development and/or on-going management of the international licensing program and other legal issues relating to UPR entities.
  • Manage and facilitate securing intellectual property rights and resolving related issues including trademark, patent, copyright, music and trade secrets.
  • Review and interpret applicable law (U.S.), statutes, regulations, and pending legislation (U.S. federal, state and key global locations) and any best practices applicable to UPR operations.
  • Manage special projects, miscellaneous legal and corporate compliance matters (trademark registrations, financing or other material agreement compliance) and provide general advice and counsel on legal issues to Senior Management.

SCOPE: Manages legal aspects of commercial transactions, drafting and negotiating complex commercial and real estate agreements, including international agreements and providing advice and guidance for UPR operations and licensing.

  • Ability to effectively partner with Sr. Management team in completing deals and resolving issues. Strong business ethics.
  • Must have strong transactional drafting skills and be very detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work early mornings/nights/weekends to accommodate major transactions and multiple time zones, and adapt to a variety of cultures.
  • Excellent communications, negotiating, drafting and analytic skills; must be able to work with numerous and varied clients including Sr. Management.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and exercise sound business judgment, while maintaining professional attitude.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Strong business acumen with good judgment.
  • Fluency in Mandarin strongly preferred
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence required.

CERRIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Member of a State Bar (Florida or California strongly preferred)

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial and/or real estate transactions, negotiating, drafting and interpreting complex business/intellectual property contracts; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access as well as Internet and web-based training tools.
  • Must be willing to travel frequently, domestically and internationally, including Asia.
