We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the role of Operations Technician - Carptneter. This position is responsible for carpentry work throughout Orange County Facilities. Work is performed with some independence under the limited supervision of the supervisor or designee.

  Representative Duties    

  • Designs, constructs, retrofits, and repairs cabinets, tables, shelves, benches, partitions, flooring, door and window frames, and other types of furniture.

  • Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates.

  • Designs, constructs, remodels, retrofits and repairs interior and exterior structures made of wood, drywall, plaster, concrete, or brick. 

  • Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.).

  • Constructs, maintains, alters, and repairs building components and structures such as floors, ceilings, roofs, stairways, moldings, furniture, doors, window frames, shelves, partitions, and related building components made of wood and other building materials.

  • Checks and maintains assigned facility systems for preventive maintenance and critical operation factors.

  • Has working knowledge of specialized wood working tools and equipment to include: table saws, routers, planers, jig saws, miter saws, sanders and associated hand tools.

  • Ability to read blueprints, perform material “take-off” lists, develop scope of work for vendor required work and perform quality control inspections on vendor services.

  • Consults with trade specific employees and/or supervisor on special maintenance and repair problems.

  • Performs service and repairs on a wide variety of equipment.

  • Multi-trade assignments and responsibilities based on daily operational needs.

  • Performs other related work as assigned. 

 Minimum Qualifications    

Graduation from high school or equivalent and five (5) years of skilled-trade experience performing a full range of rough and finished skilled carpentry and millwork; or an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License by date of hire. 

Preferences    

Applicants with knowledge of building maintenance in a multi-trade environment on facilities, buildings and building systems.

Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Advantage.

Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).

Experience with handheld computers (tablets).

Excellent customer service skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Notes    

All candidates selected for hire in the Administrative Services Department must successfully complete a Criminal History and Background check. 
Hours will vary according to operational needs to include 2nd and 3rd shift.  Normal work hours may be 7:00am to 3:30 pm. Standby duty assignment for after hours and weekends is a requirement of this position.  The initial Maintenance District assignment is Downtown Maintenance District.  However, this position is subject to assignment at any Facilities Management location, due to project, task, or operational requirements.
