Starting Salary: $45,058 to 60,077 per year, depending on qualifications
NATURE OF WORK:
Performs responsible supervisory, administrative, and technical field inspection work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction and facilities management, and renovation of buildings, structures, wastewater treatment facilities and other public works projects. Work involves coordinating and supervising the inspection of new and existing buildings, and structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations, and preventative maintenance programs and requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, or mechanical field as well as in-depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Expected to exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application. Inspection work is performed outdoors and involves exposure to all weather conditions and working at heights.
Associate degree in related field with four years building experience in the mechanical discipline, at least one year of which must have been as a supervisor; or an equivalent combination of related training and experience. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (B.C.A.I.) as a Standard Inspector – Mechanical and Standard Plans Examiner – Mechanical. Florida driver license required. Must pass a polygraph examination.
