JOB SUMMARY: As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the ARNP or PA in conjunction with the physician and clinic supervisor is responsible for monitoring individual treatment and staff delivery of clinical services for integrated primary care.

Consumer Focus - The ARNP/PA, under supervision of the physician, provides psychiatric and medical assessment and treatment

  • Conducts physical assessments including      psychiatric and medical history, course of illness, response to treatment
  • Participate with the treatment team in the      comprehensive assessment of psychiatric and medical history (e.g., onset,      course and effect of illness, past treatment and responses, and risk      behaviors), mental status, and diagnosis; social development and      functioning; activities of daily living (e.g., self-care, living      situation, nutrition, money management); and family structure and      relationships
  • Collaborate with the Care Manager and LPNs in      assessment of individual’s physical health making appropriate referrals to      specialty care physicians for further assessment and treatment, and      coordinating medical treatments with psychiatric treatment.
  • Prescribe medications and conduct regular assessments      of therapeutic responses and side effects and educate individuals      regarding medications.
  • With other team members, provide support,      education, and counseling to family members of individuals to help them      become knowledgeable about mental and physical illness, collaborate in the      treatment process
  • Participate in the development of the      comprehensive treatment plan for each patient at treatment planning      meetings
  • Determines the most appropriate level of care      required and accurately assesses client’s needs and prioritizes care.
  • Provides tentative diagnosis for acute and      chronic healthcare disorders
  • Keeps supervisor advised of any problems,      concerns or dissatisfactions related to the delivery of services.

Program Focus

  • Actively collaborates with other LifeStream      service programs in implementation of the diversionary efforts to reduce      admission to crisis stabilization units and local emergency departments.
  • Assists with clinical supervision, education and      training of the team
  • Development, maintenance, and supervision of      medication and psychiatric and medical treatment policies and      procedures.

KNOWLEDGE AND JOB SKILLS: Must have a clear understanding of the characteristics and problems of adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses and co-occurring disorders and be knowledgeable about the SBIRT model. Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills and is able to document in a electronic medical record system.

  • Knowledge of internal medical care and clinical      skills in psychiatric nursing are fundamental
  • Comprehensive or holistic approach to client care      and the ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team is vital to      satisfactory job performance
  • Functional knowledge of the Baker and Marchman      Acts
  • Excellent crisis intervention and conflict      resolution skills are key to this position.
  • Demonstrates skills that ensure safe and      effective client care
  • Legible handwriting and documentation      skills.
  • Demonstrates a cooperative attitude to problem      solving and conflict resolution with all levels of staff and in all      interactions with families and outside professionals

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Licensed to practice as an ARNP or PA in the State of Florida with a specialty or certification in psychiatric nursing.  

Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience serving those with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders.

Personal Qualities: It is mandatory that this employee be empathetic, respectful, and treats clients with dignity. Initiative, accuracy and dependability are important. Must be assertive and have a tenacious work ethic. Must be honest, dependable, well organized, detail orientated, and self-directed.

Special Factors: Must be able to work with a minimum of supervision and cooperatively with a variety of disciplines. Demonstrates leadership and is able to encourage and influence others in a positive, proactive manner. must be flexible, patient and remain calm in crisis situations.

Staff Development: Completes all administrative and competency requirements according to Individual Training Plan.
