Responsibilities:

Responsible for Safety and Transportation programs. A working knowledge of various regulations is needed, to include the following: OSHA and DOT (especially FMCSA). 

Key Responsibility Areas

1.      Regulatory Knowledge and Compliance – full understanding and comprehension of all applicable multi- state and federal DOT regulations that impact our businesses. 

2.      Audits & Inspections – help insure compliance (both paperwork and facilities) with DOT & Club Assist standards and external requirements. Conduct mock audits.  Insure follow through on identified items. 

 

3.      Accident Investigations – conduct investigations (with assistance of outside personnel as needed) of all accidents and develop accident prevention measures to share with all personnel.

 

4.      Safety Meetings & Training – conduct safety meetings and assist facilities with safety meeting topics and delivery as well as annual and as-needed training programs.  Monthly Tool-Box Talks for all locations.

 

5.      Driving Safety – conduct defensive driving training programs and identify ways to improve driving habits of all drivers

 

6.      Health – conduct Industrial Health sampling as required. Develop programs to improve driver health (eating habits, exercise, staying awake, etc.).

 

7.      Claims Management – manage all workers compensation and liability claims and, in conjunction with Human Resources, develop approaches to reduce liability and accidents.

 

8.    Skills required include understanding of DOT regulations related to trucking, knowledge of   OSHA regulations, knowledge of hazardous chemicals, and ability to provide training with the aforementioned topics. 

9.     Must be able to manage multiple projects and regulatory deadlines. 

10.   Computer proficiency needed including a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

DOT Responsibilities:

  • Manage DQ files and DQ maintenance tasks utilizing JJ Keller’s Encompass program
  • Review Hours of Service logs & timesheets for compliance
  • Handle DOT Inspection reports and violation compliance
  • Maintain all DOT required documents & record retention
  • Monitor and report DOT scores to key stakeholders monthly
  • Update MCS-150 as needed
  • Provide new-hire and on-going DOT training
  • Assist staff with DOT related questions
  • Implement E-log program
  • Manage DOT random drug test program
  • All other DOT related duties

 

Qualifications

 Education, Experience, Skills Required

A college degree in DOT / OSHA Health & Safety or a related field is required, although relevant work experience may substitute for formal education. 

 A Minimum of  3 - 5 years of relevant DOT experience required. 

A thorough knowledge of federal, state, OSHA and DOT regulations is required.

Must have excellent planning, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.

Must be willing to travel across the US 20-30%. 

Skills required include understanding of DOT regulations related to trucking, knowledge of OSHA regulations, knowledge of hazardous chemicals, and ability to provide training with the aforementioned topics. 

Create and instruct employees on safety techniques, regulations, requirements of OSHA, DOT and DOL.

Must be able to communicate effectively, oral and written, and also able to maintain effective working relationships with Fleet, drivers, warehouse staff, and office staff.

Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree required; preferably in Occupational Safety & Health.
