Accounting Assistant II

SUMMARY: Under general supervision, performs a variety of accounting clerical duties according to existing procedures, methods and systems.  Receives, sorts, and proofs accounting documents, posts appropriate entries to ledger accounts, and performs other accounting and clerical duties.  Requires good mathematical skills, accuracy and basic knowledge of bookkeeping for use in maintaining accounting records by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 ·         Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and computes ending cash balance.

• Computes and records charges, refunds, service charges, and similar items.
• Processes IRS levies and child support.
• Types vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records.
• Verifies and processes share-drafts and sends returns to the Fed.
• Completes daily and monthly Journal Vouchers as assigned and uploads to Prologue.
• Reconciles general ledger accounts with a moderate degree of difficulty.
• Serves as backup for member research, statements and check copies.
• Inputs Accounts Payable, new vendors, and researches payment inquires.
• Requires PC knowledge and intermediate understanding of Microsoft Office software within a Windows operating system.
• Processes branch and ATM cash orders, creates applicable GL entries, and reconciles transactions against the bank statement.
• Daily American Express balancing and settlement verification. 
• Scanning and Sorting.
• Performs such other duties as might be assigned by the Supervisor.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

 Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Accounting recommended. In addition should have three or more years of relevant experience.
