Brand & Cause Communications Content Writer / Specialist

Under the leadership of the VP of Brand & Cause Advocacy, this individual will be based out of our corporate office and responsible for researching, creating, writing, scripting, editing and posting content across multiple platforms. S/he must ensure consistent adherence to YMCA brand guidelines for all marketing and communications materials and activities. This individual should have a propensity to project a positive professional attitude and look for innovative solutions to overcome obstacles. S/he must possess superior professional interpersonal skills to establish and nurture relationships with senior executive staff, key external constituents, including the local media, volunteers, Y USA partnerships and industry vendors from corporate and non-profit institutions.

The successful candidate must be an experienced writer with an aptitude for creating compelling brand and cause-driven content, must thrive under minimal supervision within a busy corporate office environment and is self-directed to accomplish requested initiatives on time, with excellence. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; communications, marketing, journalism or related field of study.
  • Minimum 5 – 7 years of progressively responsible experience in digital, corporate writing or brand & cause driven marketing communications experience required.
  • Exceptional writing, scripting, editing and proofreading skills required.
  • Experience or interest in writing brand & cause driven content for Y healthy living initiatives and programs involving preventative health, fitness, healthy eating, healthcare and workplace cooperative programs. Sample work may be required.
  • Demonstrated experience executing communications programs.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of senior leadership and staff; within a fast-paced corporate office marketing & communications team.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; including a high level of skill in Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Adobe required.  
  • Outstanding interpersonal and professional communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize projects, work within short time frames and meet deadlines.
  • Well organized with ability to multi-task and think outside of the box.
  • Self-starter; Able to work independently.
  • Demonstrated success in a content/writer communications role for a medium size organization.
  • YMCA or related cause-drive industry experience, highly preferred.
