Aquatics Supervisor

The YMCA of Central Florida has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Aquatics Supervisor at our Golden Triangle YMCA Family Center located in beautiful Lake County (included in the Orlando–Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida metropolitan area).

Under the supervision of the Sr. Program Director or Executive Director, the Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for the recruitment, retention, training, performance evaluation and day to day supervision of aquatics staff and aquatics programming within the Family Center. This individual supervises and coordinates activities of other employees, s/he must have proven related experience leading and motivating a staff team. The incumbent may spend equal or majority of time actually performing the work of subordinates or front line employees as needed. The Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for generating revenue and monitoring expenses according to the department budget. This individual will be responsible for preparing and coordinating employee work schedules to ensure necessary aquatics staffing at all times. S/he will be required to regularly verify work hours of employees and submit timecards through the electronic system within payroll deadlines.

This individual supports member participation and retention through the development and execution of aquatics programs to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all members. S/he must be available to work a flexible schedule during peak times of business, including mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Job Requirements

To be successful, you must meet education, training and experience requirements, and you must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required; sports management, recreation management or related field of study preferred
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years’ experience in aquatics field required.
  • Minimum 1 - 3 years’ experience in staff supervision, recruitment, performance evaluation and leadership required.
  • Prior experience generating revenue and or monitoring expenses according to department budget preferred.
  • Prior experience participating on a Quality Team or Fundraising initiatives preferred.
  • YMCA aquatics or operations experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required; Oracle experience a plus.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Current Oxygen Administration certification required.
  • Current Lifeguard certification required. (YMCA Lifeguard certification preferred; Red Cross Lifeguard certification is acceptable, but must receive YMCA certification within 60 days).
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 60 days.
  • Current YMCA Pool Operator on Location certification or Certified Pool Operator required.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer and YMCA Aquatic Management certifications a plus.
