What
is it?
Last
year, local community leaders unveiled "Project Hometown" a
non-profit, grassroots organization comprised of citizens, public and
private
entities, businesses, and community partners – all who believe in
the
revitalization of Orlando's downtown. Project Hometown supports the
building
and renovation of three community venues – the Orlando Performing
Arts Center,
the Florida Citrus Bowl, and a new Events Center – as one,
visionary initiative
for everyone who calls Central Florida home. Project Hometown encourages
everyone to become active in the debate to "build them all, build
them
now, and build them right." For more information, or to find out
how you
can help, please visit

Why
does OrlandoJobs.com support this Project?
In one simple word...JOBS! Orlando is already a tremendous destination for
our friends who visit our area attractions. Right now, many different types
of corporations are considering expanding on moving their operations to
Central Florida. (Burnham already has made this great commitment (
http://www.burnham.org).
We also have a lot of great companies located here that need to attract
talent to fill critical job openings. In both cases, a lot of job creation
in Central Florida is possible. It is our position that to attract and
retain the best talent and create jobs, we need updated facilities to get on
a level playing field with other world class cities. Having a Performing
Arts Center for culture, a Citrus Bowl for sports events (NCAA National
Championship Football Game?) and a state of the art Events Center will paint
Central Florida in a whole new light! And most importantly, create jobs!
Jobs will be created initially by the construction of the venues(10,800 jobs
over 4 years). Then more jobs will be created to staff the venues (7,500
Jobs). Take a moment and think about all the jobs that will be created
around the venues (restaurants, stores, business offices, etc). Think about
the jobs created when more companies like Burnham move in and set up shop in
Orlando. Also consider that it will help a lot of current Central Florida
companies expand and create even more jobs. It will happen.
We have 21 employees at our company. While Central Florida has a lot of
exciting things to do already, wouldn't it be great if families had the
opportunity to share in events like top rated plays, ballet, theatre, sports
event or top name concerts? These are the exact things that Central Florida
residents are missing out on today! Instead of going to Miami or Atlanta to
attend top notch events, let's get them in our backyard!
We have been recruiting in Orlando since 1987 and have seen tremendous
growth in Central Florida. If one thing has always stood out from the
feedback from candidates who considered moving to Orlando is the fact we
don't have any "culture". This prevents families from moving here as well
as allows our best talent to move away from the area. The 3 venue project
will go a long way in helping solve this problem.
