The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of JUVENILE INTERVENTION OFFICER - INTAKE SCREENER ASSIGNED TO THE JUVENILE ASSESSMENT CENTER (JAC).
This position involves professional and administrative work involving detention screening and intake of juvenile arrestees within the Juvenile Assessment Center.

REFERENCE JUVENILE INTERVENTION OFFICER VIA JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Provides detention screening and intake to juveniles who are arrested and presented to the Seminole County Juvenile Assessment Center
Ensure completion of the Detention Risk Assessment Instrument (DRAI), Suicide Risk Assessment, State Attorney Recommendations, and Massachusetts Assessment Youth Screening Instrument (MAYSI)
Provides appropriate documentation into the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS). Maintains compliance in the JJIS to include; charges, demographics, education, and alerts or special needs
The screener is also responsible for making appropriate referrals as identified by the Massachusetts Assessment Youth Screening Instrument (MAYSI), to the Treatment Alternatives for Safer Communities (TASC) and other assessments
Makes contact with the victim, family members and collateral community members to ensure public safety is served as well as identifying appropriate needs and resources for arrestees
- Review screening packet information prior to court if the supervisor is not available
- Takes a leadership role in copying and scanning screening packets
- Attends all judicial court proceedings as needed
- Develops and maintains relationships with judicial, law enforcement, schools, and social and civic organizations
- Ensures proper documentation of juveniles that are at the Juvenile Assessment Center for longer than six (6) hours from the time they come into the screener's office until they leave the building
Makes recommendations to the state attorney's office concerning judicial or non-judicial alternatives
- Supervises and interacts with male and female juveniles, including felons and misdemeanants
Performs other duties as assigned or as may be necessary for the efficient and effective performance of the position functions
Minimum Qualifications
- REFERENCE JUVENILE INTERVENTION OFFICER VIA JOB DESCRIPTIONS
- Two (2) years experience working with juveniles
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, Guidance/Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field
- Consideration may be given to equivalent combination of related training, education and experience
- Must become NCIC/FCIC certified via an FBI background screening and FDLE qualification examination within six (6) months of employment
- Must be able to complete PAR training within six (6) months of employment
- Internal applicants must have completed the Seminole County Sheriff's Office one (1) year probationary period
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License

ASSIGNMENT WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment for this position is normally within the confined setting of a Juvenile Detention Facility and involves direct contact with arrested, truant and runaway juveniles. Job assignment may require court attendance and may include driving an agency vehicle. Work is performed twenty four hours a day, seven days a week and may require the incumbent to work varied hours.
Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory in the performance of an employee's duties for this position, to include scheduled work hours, and required training activities, calls for mandatory overtime needs and calls for service during times of an emergency.
Knowledge of interviewing and counseling techniques. Ability to provide counseling and guidance services; to conduct and document interviews; to make recommendations concerning the documentation, processing and disposition of delinquent juveniles; to work independently without constant supervision; to communicate both orally and in writing; to understand interpret and implement policies, law and procedures in regards to Florida Statute Chapter 985; to plan, organize, prioritize and coordinate work assignments.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work environment for this position involves direct contact with arrested, truant and runaway juveniles. Depending on job assignment the majority of the work is performed in either an office setting or has a heavy emphasis in field investigations. Job assignment may require court attendance and may include driving an agency vehicle. Work is performed twenty four hours a day, seven days a week and may require the incumbent to work varied hours.

Emotional/Psychological- Potential contact with hostile individuals; direct juvenile inmate contact, exposure to emergency situations; may be exposed to trauma, grief and death; frequent public contact; decision-making and concentration
Special Requirements-Ability to behave respectably and with utmost integrity even when off duty. Work may including working weekends, nights, holidays, and/or overtime or call outs; May be required to respond for any critical incident, manmade or natural
Environmental- Exposure to varied weather conditions

External applicants for employment will submit to a thorough background investigation, which includes, but not limited to, past employment/education verification, driver license review, credit history, prior drug use history, arrest/conviction record, and computerized voice stress analysis (CVSA) testing. A certified examiner administers the CVSA with questions addressing illegal drug use and general questions of honesty and criminal history. The background investigation process may take 3-6 months depending upon the complexity of the applicant's background and position for which you've applied. Applicants selected for employment will be provided a conditional offer and required to submit to a medical examination with drug screening.
