The Villages Charter School (VCS) opened in August 2000 and is one of the most successful public charter schools in Florida. In fact, VCS has been a "High Performing Charter School", earned a "School of Excellence" and has received 21 straight "A" ratings from the Florida Department of Education! Recently, VCS earned the “Cognia School and Systems of Distinction” from the international accreditation group Cognia.
The Villages Charter School spans two campuses. Our Buffalo Ridge campus has three elementary attendance centers and one middle school building. Our newest campus, “Middleton”, opened in August 2023 with a K-8 center and a state-of-the-art high school complex.
VCS currently serves over 3700 students, kindergarten through 12th grades with an overall capacity of 6500 (500 students per grade level) across both campuses.

DESCRIPTION:
The Villages Charter School is accepting applications for an Athletic Trainer for the 2024-2025 School year. The Athletic Trainer will work with medical professionals, coaches, and athletes to ensure that athletes are ready to compete and receive the proper treatment in the event of illness or injury. They will be responsible for evaluating the physical condition of the athletes and use their knowledge of sports-related injuries to diagnose and treat athletes.

In order for the application to be complete, you must also include copies of all transcripts, a copy of the State of Florida Department of Health Athletic Trainer License, a copy of BOC certification, a copy of your resume, and letters of recommendation.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with the mission and goals of The Villages Charter School and the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The expectations include the following and other duties as assigned:
- Provide first aid and injury assessment/treatment/rehabilitation for The Villages Charter School student-athletes within the scope of their licensure and the state practice act.
- Coordinate with the current Athletic Trainer to ensure coverage of athletic training room(s), practices and events.
- Provide injury evaluation and treatment on VHS campus.
- Provide on-call and as needed services to both the Middleton and Buffalo Ridge Middle School campuses.
- Provide onsite evaluation and treatment/rehabilitation services to students during their school day.
- Coordinate with the current Athletic Trainer to maintain the Athletic Training Budget and keep track of inventory, AT supply bids and ordering.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records along with all FHSAA-required documents and records.
- Collaborate with the current Athletic Trainer to build a quality Athletic Training Student-Aide Program advancing the current program to one that allows students the opportunity to be involved in injury prevention and care.
- Safeguard the upkeep and cleanliness of the Athletic Training Room(s) and facilities.
- Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
- Maintain a daily treatment log.
- Maintain communication with parents on the care and treatment of their student-athlete.
- Other duties as assigned by Athletic Director and/or current Athletic Trainer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) or higher from an accredited educational institute.
- One to Two years of related experience and/or training
- Must hold or be eligible for Athletic Training licensure by the State of Florida Department of Health
- Must hold or be eligible for certification from the BOC
- Maintain current certification in BLS CPR/First Aid
- Such additional or alternative qualifications to the above as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
221 days – Exempt. Benefits shall be paid consistent with the VCS policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment are those established by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of TVCS policy on evaluations of personnel.
