The Material Handler serves as a team member moving product throughout the plant servicing both internal and external customers. The Material Handler moves all product from the pressroom and bindery en route to its final destination.
Essential Functions:
The essential functions include, however, are not limited to:
- Serves as a team member moving product throughout the plant to perform day to day functions of material handling operations; such as shipping, receiving, calculating and verifying inbound/outbound product
- Perform daily check on powered industrial trucks and report any damage or mechanical problems to Supervisor
- Process shipment paperwork using the existing computer system
- Read, understand, and interpret the daily press schedule for the purpose of staging required stock
- Interpret purchase orders and truck manifests to ensure the proper receiving of stock/consignment supplies or daily small packages and the proper staging of the product
- Perform duties such as banding, wrapping, and movement of product from bindery, pressroom and other departments throughout the plant
- Serve as a team member for daily operations and/or work alone if assigned to the nightshift or weekends
- Perform other duties as required
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
- Ability to stand for long periods of time, use hands or fingers, reach with hands and arms, walk throughout the plant, talk and hear
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull and bend frequently
- Vision ability for close objects and for distance
Work environment
This is a warehouse environment that includes:
- Unheated and non air-conditioned conditions
- Machinery noise level varies from moderate to loud
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Perform basic math calculations such as addition and subtraction
Education and Training
Required
- Minimum one year in a manufacturing or warehouse environment
- Fork lift truck certification
- Strong team orientation
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Availability to work rotating shifts, weekends and overtime
- High school degree or equivalent
