Aquatics Coordinator / Swim Coach - Osceola County YMCA Family Center

The YMCA of Central Florida has an exciting opportunity for a Full-time Aquatics Coordinator at our Osceola YMCA Family Center in Kissimmee. This will be a dual rule, part of the time will be spent as a certified Swim Coach. Under the shared supervision of the Executive Directors, this individual assists in the supervision of aquatics staff and aquatics programming within the Family Center. This individual supports member participation and retention through assisting in the development and execution of aquatics programs to achieve strategic goals and provide outstanding customer service to all members. The Aquatics Coordinator will assist in the implementation of aquatic programs including; lap swimming, swim lessons, swim team and group exercise classes. S/he must have experience supervising others as they will assist in the supervision of the aquatic department staff and ensure they are always following all safety and policy regulations. At times this individual may perform lifeguard duties, swim lesson instruction, coaching of swim team as scheduled, or in order to provide substitution coverage.

As the Swim Coach they will perform assigned coaching responsibilities, including practices, recruiting, record keeping and scheduling. Additionally, this individual will lead swimmers through skill mastery and swim practices to achieve higher level of technique. The incumbent must teach participants how to perform skills correctly as well as design tailored workouts for the various levels of abilities and strengths using ASCA I Level Guidelines. S/he will coordinate, set up and supervise swim meets, including warm-ups, practice dives to ensure the safety of the swimmers. The incumbent must coordinate and schedule times for swim practices with other aquatic department staff leads and communicate practice times as necessary. S/he must be available to work a flexible schedule during peak times of business, including mornings, evenings, and weekends. The incumbent will support the department by coordinating employee schedules and payroll responsibilities. S/he also must be able to travel locally. 

Job Requirements

To be successful, you must meet education, training and experience requirements, and you must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Education, Training and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in aquatics related field required.
  • YMCA aquatics or operations experience preferred.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency required.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Current Oxygen Administration certification required.
  • Current Lifeguard certification required. (YMCA Lifeguard certification preferred; Red Cross Lifeguard certification is acceptable, but must receive YMCA certification within 60 days).
  • Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification required within 60 days.
  • Current YMCA Pool Operator on Location certification or Certified Pool Operator required.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer and YMCA Aquatic Management certifications a plus.
  • Current YMCA Swim Coach or USA Swim Coach (for specialty such as USA Registered Water Polo, Synchro or Diving) certification required.
  • Current YMCA Lifeguard/YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant or Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches certification required.
