Overview

Under the direction of the Corporate Controller or the Payroll Administrator, the Payroll Specialist coordinates and supports all bi-weekly payroll cycle related processes and continuous improvement project initiatives as directed. This individual will provide accounting support to major financial accounting areas, including the payroll process, accounts payable, general ledger accounting, and account reconciliation. S/he is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of payroll related services; enforce procedures, train staff and ensure regulatory compliance. The successful candidate must be able to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced highly deadline driven environment; possess strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a keen attention to detail and maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times.

Job Requirements

  1. Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required; Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field. Bachelor’s degree a plus.
  2. Minimum two years experience in a payroll, accounting or finance role required within a medium to large sized organization. Non-profit experience a plus.
  3. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or other nationally recognized payroll certification a plus.  
  4. Minimum two years experience in using Microsoft Excel and working with multiple spreadsheets required.
  5. Ability to quickly build rapport and develop effective relationships with cross-departments, employees and vendors.
  6. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and adapt to changing contexts and priorities.
  7. Must have strong analytical and critical-thinking skills.
  8. Ability to understand, adapt to and interact with diverse people, teams, perspectives and cultures.
  9. Ability to prioritize tasks and meet all required deadlines.
  10. Proficiency working with ADP, Oracle or similar payroll management system / human resources information system (HRIS) highly preferred.
