SUMMARY:

The Director of Consumer Lending is responsible for developing, overseeing and managing CFE’s strategic vision for lending.  Manage the credit risk, interest rate risk, compliance risk, portfolio management, product development, service level expectations, and the profitability of the lending portfolio.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops strategic direction for lending in support of the organizational strategies and objectives.
  • Drives the department’s strategic planning process, business plan development, budget targets, and performance metrics.
  • Monitor production goals, and make recommendations to enhance or improve lending growth, market share, loan quality, revenue and member satisfaction, profitability, and loan quality.
  • Assess underwriting procedures to ensure compliance with CFE’s lending policies and federal and state regulations, evaluate adequacy of procedures, make recommendations for improvement.
  • Perform credit quality reviews of loans, analyze loan underwriting, credit decision-making, booking, and monitoring activities to identify risks and evaluate the controls in place to manage/mitigate these risks.
  • Provide guidance to all levels of loan officers/underwriters concerning credit risk based on identified risk-level components: scope of authority, compliance, decision-making, and loan performance.
  • Manage the indirect loan program which includes reviewing, analyzing and underwriting indirect auto loan requests submitted by franchise auto dealer partners within prescribed time frames to ensure quality member and dealer service.
  • Monitor the loan funding in the indirect loan process to verify all appropriate documents are received, the funding packets are within the loan decision parameters, ensure packages are funded or returned to the dealer within the appropriate time frames. 
  • Foster a positive and engaging work environment for each team member by promoting skill development, coaching for improvement and growth, inspiring other through words and actions, ensuring positive employee morale and embracing our mission, and vision statements.
  • Provides frequent and meaningful feedback to staff regarding performance, completes performance review and ensures progress against established goals and objectives.
  • Directs development of lending products and programs in collaboration with Marketing, Finance, Technology, Branch Operations, Training, and Compliance.
  • Responsible for review and modification of the Consumer loan document sets to ensure compliance with state and federal regulators changes as well as audit and monitor that the appropriate documents are used in every loan transaction.
  • Responsible for oversite of the credit unions Loan Origination System (LOS), which allows for instant approval or denial of loans.
  • Ensures service delivery metrics meet or exceed stakeholder’s expectations.
  • Analyzes trends and risk within the portfolio and develops strategies in alignment with the organization’s risk tolerance.
  • Establishes policies and procedures for lending and reviews exceptions to policies, programs and pricing as required.
  • Develops and maintain loan pricing models and strategies in alignment with CFE’s strategic plan and direction from Senior Management.
  • Provides overall vendor management functions critical to lending including, contract management, performance monitoring, and SLA definition and management.
  • Oversee processes performed within the Lending Team to evaluating policies, practices and procedures to develop and implement successful loan file review and quality control processes.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive business continuity plan to safeguard lending operations and member service levels.
  • Extensive knowledge of regulations governing the lending function at CFE, including regulations B, C, X, Z, Fair Lending Act, and Fair Credit Reporting Act.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common financial reports and legal documents.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a face-pace environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and executive presence under pressure.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to build strong relationships throughout the credit union.
  • Strong communications skills including written, verbal and interpersonal.
  • Perform duties and responsibilities specific to department functions and activities or as assigned by Management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Degree in Credit Management plus at least five years lending experience in a bank, credit union, finance company or savings and loan, or the equivalent combination of formal training and experience obtained at a credit granting institution of comparable size and complexity.
