Department Profile\: Florida Hospital Altamonte houses a Surgical Suite and Ambulatory Surgery Center and is accredited and certified at the highest level. We handle various cases including general surgery, gynecology, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, plastics, vascular and urology procedures at our world-class surgical suite features 30,000 square-feet of state-of-the-art space, within which we are able to offer microscopic, arthroscopic, laser, endoscopic and video technologies. The suite includes 6 operating rooms, 8 pre-op beds, 12 PACU beds and 10 private post-op beds. But the highlight is our integrated multi-media operating rooms, equipped with a technology platform for live surgical broadcasts, web-based education and instructional video production, international connectivity and multiple education/conference centers. Through our new integration system and video conferencing capabilities, our OR is part of The Nicholson Center for Surgical Advancement (NCSA), currently located at Florida Hospital Celebration Health. Work Hours/Shifts\: Days M-F; 7am-3pm Job Summary\: The Clinical Staff Educator has the overall responsibility for facilitating the development of clinical excellence in Surgical Services through the management of orientation, training, on-going staff development and evaluation of clinical practice for all levels of personnel served. Responsibilities may include cross coverage to more than one area in Surgical Services (i.e. Endo, PACU, OR) with minimum oversight of 50 FTES. The Clinical Staff Educator participates in the development of education programs and in-services. Coordinates orientation for all levels of new employees and serves as a mentor. Acts as a resource person, through acquired knowledge of current trends and practices, guides staff in their development of skills and capabilities. Participates in unit based and system wide performance improvement activities. Demonstrates knowledge of regulatory and national practice standards and incorporates them into clinical practice. Maintains clinical skills by precepting employees as needed as well as taking patient care assignments. Adheres and assures that staff adheres to the Florida Hospital Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. Knowledge, Skills, Education, & Experience Required\: Ability to communicate by reading, writing legibly, speaking, and comprehending English effectively in order to carry out job requirements Ability to communicate effectively Strong interpersonal skills Working knowledge of Microsoft office programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Bachelor s degree in Nursing Demonstrated experience in the clinical setting related to area of specialty (Preferred)Progressive nursing leadership experience (Preferred) Previous teaching experience (Preferred)Licensure, Certification, or Registration Required\: CPR certificationnurse Current valid Florida State licensure as a registered professional nurse Certification as a Nursing Professional Development Educator (Preferred) Clinical or Educator specialty certification. Ensures thorough and accurate documentation for all orientation, educational and regulatory components of the employee s file. Contributes educational expertise to facilitate and enhance the achievement of individual, departmental and organizational goals. Assists in establishing and revising procedures, policies, standards, techniques and nursing competency based on findings from unit performance improvement initiatives and unit rounds. Utilizes findings for development and implementation of staff education and training. Shares unit PI data with staff. Utilizes knowledge of leadership principles and management skills, accepts responsibility, exercises authority and functions independently using effective written and verbal communication. Investigates complaints and/or non-compliance of policies. Collaborates with other departments and disciplines to provide continuity of patient care and promote teamwork. Contributes to personnel performance evaluations as it relates to clinical competency and maintenance of standards. Completes evaluations for employees during the probationary period. Recognizes staff needs for additional skills and recommends pertinent education. Develops goals and action plans for employees that are in training or not meeting performance standards. Promotes a safe environment. Supervises and initiates appropriate action in emergency situations, applies awareness and control of hazards which may endanger patients, visitors and employees. Identifies environmental concerns by conducting routine unit rounds and communicates necessary precautions for a safe environment. Ensures adherence to appropriate regulatory standards and Florida Hospital policy and procedure. Maintains professional competency by participating in continuing education and appropriate learning experiences both internal and external. Attends pertinent conferences and seminars regarding clinical nursing, business or management. Provides patient care as needed. May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of Florida Hospital non-waived Point of Care training.
