Job DescriptionHVAC Maintenance Technician for Pinellas Head Start / Early Head Start**By clicking Apply Now you will be redirected to our career site to complete our agency application.General Description: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform required maintenance and repair duties necessary to maintain assigned facilities; perform a variety of carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing repair and maintenance work; inspect, repair and maintain refrigeration and HVAC related equipment;perform routine and emergency repairs and adjustments to HVAC systems, buildings and facilities. Participates in the PHS/EHS Operations efforts.Essential Duties:Installs, inspects, maintains and repairs all types of refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilating equipment, such as central, chiller, wall and window air conditioning units; exhaust fans and blowers; walk-in and chest type freezers; ice machines and water coolers.Trouble shoots HVAC systems to determine cause of malfunctions and takes appropriate action.Checks air handler units to ensure most efficient operation.Schedules ongoing service for preventative maintenance for all equipmentCleans, adjusts and repairs equipment in a preventative maintenance program.Assists in repairing, replacing and checking pressure relief valves.Maintains daily and year to date records and logs on operating conditions and repairs to mechanical equipment and systems.Prepares drawings and sketches as required.Operates refrigeration gauge, volt/ohm meter, vacuum pump, recovery systems, welding equipment and other related tools and equipment.Monitors construction on new HVAC systems to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications.Performs required maintenance and repair duties necessary to maintain assigned facilities and buildings by performing a variety of carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing repair and maintenance work; perform routine and emergency repairs and adjustments to buildings and facilities.Repair and replace plumbing fixtures including faucets, toilets, fixtures, water lines, washers, and gaskets.Perform carpentry work including the construction, installation, and repair of cabinets, partitions, bulletin boards, shelving, windows, doors, desks, chairs, and related items; install necessary hardware.Perform repairs and adjustments to equipment and facilities including changing air filters, repairing heating and air conditioning units, and perform minor concrete work including the repair of sidewalks.Perform minor repairs and coordinate repairs and inspections with vendors for sprinkler systems, fire extinguishers, security and fire alarm panels.Move and arrange furniture and equipment; set-up rooms for meetings and special events; ensure security of facilities including locking and unlocking doors.Prepares requisitions and maintains supply inventory and ordering necessary parts and supplies; receive and store materials and supplies; pick up supplies and equipment as necessary;Inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to identify maintenance, repair, and replacement needs; report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.Operates and maintains power equipment and tools.Performs electric and acetylene welding, brazing and fabrication.Clean light fixtures; replace lights, bulbs, and fluorescent tubes as necessary.Perform work in adherence to safe work practices and procedures and in compliance with applicable standards.Attends safety training and participates in staff meetings and in-services activities as directed.Unlock and lock doors; turn off alarms; turn on lights and outside code pads; issue alarm codes to employees and provide training on alarm use.Replenishes playground mulch, touch up paint playground equipment and perform pressure washing tasks.Performs interior and exterior painting tasks and wall repairs.Other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Abilities:Knowledge of:Operation and use of hand and power tools and equipment.Basic record keeping techniques.Methods, equipment and materials used in HVAC and general maintenance work.Health and safety procedures.Proper methods of storing equipment, materials and suppliesWorking knowledge and practice of HVAC systems, electricity, painting, plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.Operational hazards and standard safety practices necessary in the area of assigned work. Ability To:Understand the operation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment.Trouble shoot mechanical and electrical problems to include refrigeration and HVAC systems.Ability to diagnose HVAC equipment using a lap top and hand held devices.Understand HVAC, OSHA, NFPA and related safety practices and regulations.Perform required maintenance and repair duties necessary to maintain assigned facilities.Perform a variety of carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing repair and maintenance work.Perform routine emergency repairs and adjustments to buildings and facilities.Maintain facilities in a clean, safe and secure condition.Use common cleaning equipment and supplies safely and efficiently.Move and arrange furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.Observe and report safety hazard and need for maintenance and repair.Learn the policies, procedures, and codes related to building, maintenance, and repair.Perform a full range of semi-skilled HVAC, custodial, building maintenance and repair work.Repair and maintain a variety of mechanical equipment.Read and interpret sketches, drawings, diagrams, and blueprints.Understand and follow oral and written instructions.Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.Establish and maintain a cooperative and effective working relationship with others. Licenses and Other Requirements:Must possess a valid Florida drivers license and certifications necessary to drive all vehicles as required.Education:Associate Degree in HVAC and Refrigeration (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) technology s preferred. Experience: Three (3) years of trade experience in performing general building maintenance and repair; maintenance, repair and installation of refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation equipment preferably in an institutional or educational environment. EPA Certification and HVAC Certification required. Licensed HVAC contractor license preferred. Bilingual preferred: English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area.
